Well that's him screwed. Behind Cole for club and country, what a waste! Is it a case of money over football? I could understand it if he was settled in the area, but jaysus, there's enough London clubs about for him to move to. Erm

I was hoping we'd sign him in january

It could possibly be so, if Chelsea have instigated this then its a fabulous coup, they have a quality back up player, and will command still a high transfer fee should he want to leave.

I might add, it may not be a career move for Bridge, but financially he will have guranteed himself 4 years of certainty.

    Approx figures

    £10m for Boumsong
    £10+m for Luque
    £16m for Owen

Seems like your the ideal candidate, better be afraid, very afraid kimbo Wink

    Welcome back CSS !

Its a possibility, but in reality they lack a left back cover for Ashley Cole, whereas last season they could use Gallas now obviously they cannot.

At the moment its unlikely in my opinion but who knows where Chelsea's transfer policy will take them.

    Well thank you senior,

I suppose you are right about the left back cover, I would assume that Bridge will get the English Cup games, how proud he must be.

Bridge = huge gambler, needs to stay at chelsea to clear the debts and continue his habit. No other reason possible for this new contract.

He should have gone to United if it was to guarantee fending off any debt. They seem to pay their defenders more (Rio £100,000+ lol!) and would've been guaranteed 1st team football Wink

Ballack, Terry and Flumpard are all on 130K a week. That's just over 20 million a season you're spending on their wages...

Well, he's a better player than Cole. Cole can't cross or shoot, he just runs a lot and tackles reasonably well.

It's strange that some Chelsea players just seem to lose their ambition. Cudicini has stayed at Chelsea even though he could have been first choice for an endless number of big clubs around the world. He should know that he has 0 chance of benching Cech and he's 33 so it's not like he has his whole career ahead of him. You could say that this season he "got lucky" with Cech's injury but that was a real freak accident.

Now Bridge signs an extension even though he has little chance of ever benching Cole. Cole's immediate inclusion into the starting lineup should have given him that clue.

Oh well, lucky Chelsea I guess Cool

Cudicini was probably having the time of his life before Cech's injury.

Light training, 5 games a season and a pundits job on Bravo earning around £40 k a week. Probably disappointed he has to play now.

was hoping villa might go for bridge - depending on the cost. could do with strengthening in that position, bouma's improving but doesnt look a natural lb and samuel's been out of form/injured for a couple of seasons.

but i can understand chelsea keeping him - he's their only cover at lb that i can think of

For the last time, only Ballack and Sheva earn over £100k. Terry and Flumps are both on £90k and although there was talk about them going up to £100k +, it never happened.

Carlo played all the domestic cup matches + a few prem matches.

He'd get on average about 20 games a season.

I've heard about these clauses in Terry and Lampard's contract. Why do they feel entitled to be highest earners at the club when there are much better players than them? Is this one reason why Gallas didn't want to play next to Terry again fully knowing he's the much better player while earning less? <Ale>
