Good news for all EPL fans.

Hopefully this means we will have one of the worlds best players plying his trade on these shores for a few years to come.

Also, it surely means that, for the first time, we could well have the World Player of the Year playing in England.

Great news, I think he will be on 110k the same as Rio and Rooney etc.

£110k a week is a ridiculous amount of money for a 22 year old, when you actually think about it. He earns more in a day than most people earn in a year!!!!

Yep good news for the EPL. He's one of the players that make the league( and football in general) worth watching.

I'm very surprised he signed before the end of the season. I honestly thought there was a big chance of him going to Madrid. The main reason why I believed this was that Ronaldo has been notoriously quiet about expressing his commitment for ManU this whole time. Maybe he was taking advantage of the rumors to get a higher salary and got his way.

However, I always said that Ronaldo's signing was not something I was losing sleep on. I would have liked it if he joined us but there are plenty of players out there who would be better value for money, given how ridiculous CR's price tag currently is.

It may also be a blessing in disguise given that Calderon may have just been stupid enough to pay 80 million Euros for him.

Seems to me that, if Ronaldo is staying at Man U, Madrid will surely go in big for Kaka. I know Milan have a game in hand over Palermo, but at the moment they're not in the CL positions for next year and if that were to remain the case there's no way Kaka would stay another season.

Nope. And I think it would be stupid to spend something like 80 million on him as well. For that money we could buy Diego, Quaresma, Alexis, and Huntelaar. Give me those 4 over Kaka any day of the week.

You have to hand it to the guy though. He used Real Madrid and Barcelona to scare the hell out of ManU into giving him a ridiculous salary. Maybe Ronaldo is not as dumb as he looks.

He should be on the same imo, but oh well. If it takes us another £2 - 3 million to keep him for another 3 years, I'm not complaining.

Only Fletcher should earn £120k plus.

As I see it, Rooney and Ronaldo are the future of our club and both have been massively behind our change of fortune the last 16 months. Hence why we've been so desperate to get them both to sign such long contracts to tie them to the club.

I'd pay them the same myself, just for the harmony of both if anything even if it meant paying Ronaldo £10k less or if it meant paying Rooney 10k more.

Ronaldo has been much better this season but Rooney was much better last season.

    Should be -

    Giggs/Scholes - 90k
    Rio - 110k
    Rooney, Ronaldo - 110/120k
    Fletcher - 150k

On the season that Rooney carried the team you had lost the league weeks before it ended and went out of the CL in the group stages.

On the season that Ronaldo carried the team...

I think that says enough about their difference in quality, not to mention that Ronaldo's progression has been an upward curve, unlike Rooney's.

I think even Rooney would agree that Ronaldo deserves more money.

I won't even comment on Fletcher.

Its very good that Man Utd have tied down two of their best assets who are also the future of the club. But there is one danger for me. When it comes to the point when the club wants to extend the contracts, are they going to have to offer more money as that is what usually happens. £120k is an obsene amount and is only reserved for a few players, but surely they cannot increase it even further. Only Chelsea could do that.

    Laughing Thats really unfair.

Our team compared to last year is far better. We don't only have one class left back this season, we have two. Vidic has been immense at centre back. Scholes is like he was in his prime as well.

I don't doubt Ronaldo is a better player right now and will be in the future, I just think both should be earning the same at this present moment. If we come to renew contracts in a few years time for both players and Ronaldo is still outperforming Rooney then give him a bigger contract.

Post by Tuga Sat Apr 14, 2007 1:48 pm

Personally I think wages will continue to rise. The EPL is already the richest league in the world and has hit a turning point where the best players want to come here in Italy's and Spain's detriment.

The new multi-million TV contracts and pay-off structure means that the money will be lavished on even the relegation teams which means that the quality will start to spread to the mid table teams and even the bottom ones. Of course, the club will be even more select as teams being relegated will bounce straight back, the teams who fail to gain promotion in the next couple of years can say goodbye to top flight football for the next decade.

All this will conspire to eventually make the EPL the best league in Europe and it will be difficult to change this. The only things I can see making an impact is legislation capping wages or limiting the amount of foreign players and neither seems forthcoming.

120000 will be peanuts in 5 years time.
