Is he good enough to force his way into the England squad should he remain fit? Or is this going to be another false dawn from the player that Del Piero once said to Capello after Juve played Newcastle in the CL : "you've got to buy him boss"....

Kieron Dyer
A genuine top class player. Has been showin it since his return, and is looking a cut above today. Great touch, mobility and vision, and is playing as a deep lying striker with Martins.

Re: Kieron Dyer
Yeah, he's quality when fit. However its the same as Woodgate. They need almost a season injury free before thinking about International football.
No point giving them games and including them in your plans and excluding others, if there just going to be injured again.

Re: Kieron Dyer
I'm not sure he's really England quality. Where would he play?
Ive never been a big fan, bit of a pace merchant, no outstanding cross/hot/set piece skills to speak of. He's a good player, but England have better.

Glenn's right I think. If we need that sort of player in the team then Lennon is a better bet, and he's not going to displace Cole, Lampard or Gerrard. Or Rooney, despite his England form.

It looked like a very nasty gash in need of several stitches, but he's playing again. GOOLLLL Newcastle. Come on Nobby!!!!!!

No, he's more than a pace merchant if you ask me. Very good passing ability and control at pace. He's the type of player that England doesnt produce enough but when we do, tends to get overlooked.
I think he's good enough to be in the England squad at least, as cover for left, right and central midfield (has played in all those positions during his career)

Re: Kieron Dyer
Always manages to look busy without ever being efficient.
How many goals or assists does he get over the course of a season, really?
Maybe he'd be a good impact player for England but then Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott would also be that and they're far younger and with greater potential...

He should've had an assist today for Martins' so called "offside" goal (great finish by the nigerian by the way).
He is a bit of an enigma I agree, but watching Newcastle today with Dyer playing, and the effect it seems to have on players like Emre and N'zogbia (who realise they have a team mate who is actually capable of passing them the ball) in comparison with how they have been playing without him, he looks like a multi million pound new signing for them.
On form I rate him very highly, he takes on players and I think his vision for the game is better than both Lennon and Walcott at this moment in time, due to his experience.
I'd take him over Jenas if I were Mclaren.

Re: Kieron Dyer
You could call him a pace merchant................ if you ignored his passing, ball retention, vision, control, and skill. Should of had an assist today if it wasn't for that linesman.
If he's still fit come January then he's well worth his place ahead of Nemo or Lennon(U21s perhaps). I don't want him selected though for obvious reasons.

Nah, not Lennon. Lennon scored again today, his shot also set up Berbie's goal versus Lerkusen. He's in excellent form and getting better all the time. Scoring against Chelsea, being marked by A Cole who we saw today how competent he is in this department, is the icing on he cake and he fully deserves being picked for England

Re: Kieron Dyer
Is he better off on the England bench getting 10 minutes here and there, OR being in an U21 team that plays good football? For his development i think the U21s would be better. The Real White Pele wrote:Kimbo wrote:You could call him a pace merchant................ if you ignored his passing, ball retention, vision, control, and skill. Kimbo - in your sig - isn't Aaron "No End Product" Lennon skinning you right Back alive and delivering a crosss for our solitary goal?
See, to get back at me, you had to contradict yourself.

@Kimbo, good point; the senior team seems to be ruining players at the moment. But we certainly do need an impact substitute, and Dyer would indeed do fine if he carries on form like today. He was impressive

And i'm generalising when i say/said "no end product", obviously. I'm still not buying the hype though, i'll wait until he's had a FULL season of playing well.

That was last season. The quality of his performances were generally very impressive.

How many goals and assists did he get last season? I can't say i was blown away by his 'break through season'.

Erm...yes. The very few games he played for us he was great. Added something to the team and is missed. When he gets fit he'll be first choice for sure.
