He was good for you but at Valencia he was one of the best 5 midfielders in the world
Tweeds: he was talking about Beckham you dozy tw@t. Wake up
Hows about one from the past- Kevin Keegan. AWESOME at Liverpool. AWESOME for Hamburg (voted European player of the year 2 years in a row). Bundesliga was on a par with the big boys in those days.

Beckham was very unfortunate- proved in England he was a top class player winning the CL and numerous trophies, but joined Madrid the same season they sold the spine of their team: players like Makalele and Hierro gone, and replaced with the likes of Raul Bravo, Pavon and Guti in the 1st team.
Had Makalelele stayed, Im sure Madrid would have won trophies.
People also forget that Man Utd have won a lot less too since Beckham's departure (1 FA Cup and 1 league cup in 3/4 seasons).

No doubt that Beckham was very important for Man Utd, but for Real Madrid he has struggled a bit. His main asset in Spain has been his superb set pieces, but they have been declining in quality.
His failure to beat a man and lack of pace has hampered him in settling into Spanish football. His position as central midifeld was also completely unsuited for him as he didn't have the vision to really dictate the rythm of the game and also lacked positional skills. Not really his fault that he was played out of position but it has resulted in him having less succes in the league.
But his work ethic has been very good.

You also can't include the "great" players that Houliier brought over from France.

No doubting his powers have waned. His best years were indeed around 1999 when he was World Class, playing wide and delivering devastating crosses for Yorke/Cole.
Best performance I saw from him at Madrid was that 4-2 victory at the bernabeu V Barca when he laid off that perfect ball for Owen to score. He did that a fair few times back in the early years of his time at Madrid

If the stuff seen in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were possible I'd use it on the memory of those buys ahead of the memories of my ex's.

Re: Cross-Continent Successes
Holland is like france, players everywhere.
I think beckham is not a success at madrid. Owen also rarely ever started, sold as soon as was possible.
