Mexico is WAY more crime ridden than the US. The US isn't that bad for crime outside of the major cities, in fact New York is pretty safe now, compared to other world cities.

Mexico is 6th on the world murder rates

    I think I'd know

I love both countries the same but living in a poor neighborhood in Mexico is entirely different than living in a ghetto in the US.

1997 was 3 years after the worst crisis in Mexican history. Of course we've were really bad back then.

I used to live in Mexico City and it was awful now its much better.

    I just see things like:

San Pedro(a municipality in Monterrey) is among the richest in the world

Monterrey is ranked the most secure city in Latin America

Monterrey Tech has the 7th best business school and law in the world.

Most of the recent news reports (if you do a search) for Mexico are related to recent huge crime waves, Mex City is supposed to be terrible for crime, still probably a lot better than Brazil though. Drug problem in Mexico is pretty crazy as well.

America has a lower overall crime rate than the UK, though that doesn't tell you what the ghettos are like.

A WC or EC should be played in Europe imo. Remember 1994 and 2002? I cant be bothered to watch games at 830 in the morning. But on the other hand it would be fair if other nations got a WC as well. If Brasil is up for the job, the can have the Wc2014...as long as we get 2018.

A WC held in Brazil would be great...an Brazil-Argentina final with Argentina winning on pens...ahh...how great would that be...

@Mex, how exactly do you rate a law school internationally? I mean each country has it's own laws, you could study for 40 years mexican law but it would be useless outside of Mexico unless you become a mexican law teacher...

Anyway I have a mexican friend who now leaves over here(Buenos Aires), and he's not as optimistic as you when talking about crime in your homeland(left 2 years ago)...he did live in DF though...

Brasil would be a great choice. I lived there for several years and although it is certainly dangerous, people tend to exagerate how bad it is. It should also be noted that since so called Lula became president, things have started going in the right direction as far as government corruption and social programs. He recently got reelected and there's hope that he will continue improving the country till 2010 and that his successor will continue the same trend.

Colombia is a completely different deal though. That country is a virtual battlefield. I'm sure that there are some safe parts over there, but have no doubt that if the WC is held there, you will have an average of at least 10 kidnappings per day by all the guerrilas. I have several Colombian friends and most of them are actually scared to visit the country.

Not to mention, most players will be very reluctant to play there. When the Copa America was held there around 5 years ago, all the teams sent their reserves to play. The tournament was a big joke that of course, Colombia ended up winning because they were the only country that took their actual starting XI.

Not really. He and his party do everything they can to keep the power in their hands. All his close friends left the government because of corruption problems.

Its based on the quality of teaching the kind of grades people get compared to other law schools in standardized international tests.

I know Mexico still has a lot to do to become a better country but I think we are much better than before. In Mexico every election used to be rigged and it was basically a totalitarian state. Now we actually have a competent government.

And if that doesn't work out I always have my home country the US Very Happy

70 years socialist party reigned over Mexico. They were democratic chosen but there was only one party.... Wink

Mexico has changed a lot since Irish immigrant Fox (friend of Bush) entered as first conservative president to make Mexico more democratic!

    Viva Mexico!!!

Well, compared to the previous administrations I think it's fair to say he's done much better. No offense but Brasilian governments are such cesspools of corruption that when a half decent one comes along it looks pretty damn good in a relative sense.

It'd be awesome to have the 2014 WC in Brazil. Would give me an excuse to visit the country (like I need one)

Not going in the Cidade de Deus de Deus though!!!

Columbia is maybe too dangerous, and other than Bogota, the other cities aren't particular big are they? And the East of of the country is a big no no to travellers.
