I hope Milan start playing Jankulovski this year.

oh and how is Brocchi going to be used ? In the Gazzetta he was being used as a right-back, but I would prefer him in midfield tbh. But then, who else would Milan play at RB ?? Bonera ? He isnt really an attacking enough RB for me. He should be in the centre.

We have problems for the Champions League.

Our backline for the Red Star game will be:

    Brocchi, Costacurta, Favalli, Jankulovski.

    Bonera is a great buy.

Kaladze was superb last season, and Jankulovski is a great talent also despite being used sparingly, we need him and Vogel to reach their form this season.

Favalli is a good professional, good shape for his age, but not really able of sufficient longevity enough for a team such as Milan, this was a poor buy for us, there are better solutions to our defensive problems around.

Is the Buffon deal still on? Question

I am not sure, i am angry to see him join our neighbours at our expense. He is a fantastic player and professional and gave us great service. We need an experienced and proven striker to guide Gila into maturity. Inter are amassing a great squad of champions and Mancini is a fantastic coach, they have only strengthened.

Regarding Gigi, he has pledged to Juventus. Last week Gazzetta published a report detailling a substantial joint transfer of Ibra and Buffon to Milan. We are yet to hear of any solid news from agents regarding this. I am glad Dida is leaving, he helped cost us the title this year and was to blame for Giuly's goal for Barca at San Siro. Having said that, we thank him for his performances in 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons where he was fantastic.

With Abbiati left for Turin, and only the GOAT left and Fiori retired, we need a keeper desperately, and one who is worthy to wear our great shirt. Buffon is a dream signing.

I was disappointed Crespo went to Inter too. So what now for Milan upfront - Torres said he won't leave Atletico; Trezeguet, Toni even?

Re. Buffon - would he really stay with Juventus?

    @ Crazy58

By all accounts from player and agent and the Juventus management it seems Gigi is prepared and happy to stay. His loyalty is commendable, but the decision may impact on his sharpness for La Nazionale.

If the player is settled and loves the club, then i am happy for his decision, but i would really love him to join us, it would be a dream. At the moment though, unless i hear something more concrete i expect him to stay in Serie B with Juve.

calciomercato speculation insists that Buffon is Milan's top target. Many are even speculating that Milan will give cash+ Coppola to Livorno, who will in turn give the Rossoneri Amelia.

Then Amelia will be used as bait to lure in Buffon.

I think Milan management are going to sign a keeper and a striker.

Either Amelia or Buffon will be fine for me, preferably both!

Calciomercato's reliability varies, because it is simply a collection of media stories and rumours, the accuracy varies hugely, but they did break the Diarra to Roma story quite some time ago which is only just now starting to pick up momentum in the popular medias.

My hunch is that Milan will net Buffon and Toni by end of the month... that would be so terrible Wink

But if not that, your worst case scenario is Ameila (much better than Dida IMO) and Treze/Ibra - who are not a patch on Sheva, but still not too bad...

don't worry, I still think Milan are our only other competition apart from Roma this season (for the scudetto) and our biggest domestic threat in the CL...

PLAYERS CALLED UP FOR MILAN-RED STAR BELGRADE
    8/8/2006
MILAN – Here are the 22 players that Carlo Ancelotti has called up for tomorrow’s third preliminary round game against Red Star Belgrade:

    Dida (1), Coppola (78), Kalac (16); Cafu (2), Costacurta (5), Favalli (19), Jankulovski (18), Simic (17); Ambrosini (23), Brocchi (32), Foggia (83), Gattuso (Cool, Gourcuff (20), Kakà (22), Pirlo (21), Seedorf (10), Serginho (27), Vogel (14); Amoroso (37), Borriello (12), Inzaghi (9), Gilardino (11)

The numbers in parenthesis indicate the jersey numbers that are valid for the first and second leg of the Champions League preliminaries.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STOJKOVIC: ‘I see myself in Andrea Pirlo’

    8/8/2006
MILAN - Red Star Belgrade president Dragan Stojkovic spoke after coach Bajevic: ‘The thing we fear most about Milan is Andrea Pirlo. He’s great. He is a world champion with class and reminds me a bit of myself. In the other parts of field there are players like Favalli and Costacurta, but I think they will find it difficult to measure up to our Zigic. He is strong not only physically, but also technically. We are going to play to win tomorrow. We want to pass this round and put our best foot forward in the first leg.’

    CARLO ANCELOTTI PRESS CONFERENCE

    8/8/2006 4:25:00 PM
MILANELLO – Carlo Ancelotti was calm and confident in today’s pre-game press conference. The Rossoneri coach has already tucked two Champions League finals and one semi-final under his belt and he is ready to get the season off to another good start: ‘We have three players unavailable, the same three central defenders, everyone else is available. Cafu is doing well. As for the rest, the only problem we have is abundance and unfortunately someone that will go to court.’ Regarding Red Star Belgrade, the coach said: ‘They are a young and enthusiastic team. Their players haven’t had a lot of international experience, but they have the desire and they are well prepared. Considering the timing, it will be a delicate game for us, for both legs they have the advantage of having had an extra fifteen days to prepare. Tomorrow evening we must pay attention and control our game so that we can avoid useless exertion. Perhaps, from a physical standpoint, our chances will be better in the return leg but we will try just the same to win the first.’ Then along more general lines, he added: 'It’s been a tough summer for the fans and I think that, just like us, they can’t wait to start the official games again.’ A final word about tomorrow: ‘We have tried to prepare the best we can in the little time that we have had. We are ready, even if this is a game that we didn’t deserve to have to play. But seeing as we do have to play it, we will do our best. The preliminaries are always delicate games, but at least this is a team that we already know well. Red Star’s primary striker, Nikola Zigic, is really tall and we can't allow him to receive the ball on high passes. The speed of the game needs to not be too elevated and ball possession could be very important for us in this game.’
