Sticking with the Smith-Jab as opposed to the Rooney-Hayemaker? Sad

    Yup.

    1) My OH is a Leeds fan (poor thing) so I've picked up a lot of Smith hatred.
    2) At least Wazza didn't sign for the Toffees arch-enemy, and earned the club a fat pile of cash in the process. Everyone at Leeds knew Smith was going to go - it was the fact that he went to Man U that stuck in their throats.

United fans like Smiths commitment and the fact it pisses of Leeds United fans, because we stole there golden boy.

Gerrard wanted to leave but the criminal underground (overground in Liverpool as its rife) threatened him and his family plus he realised he would just be another player at Chelsea and wouldnt be hero worshiped.

And made him even more shit than he already was. Looking at it dispassionately, £7m for him looks like a fabulous deal for Leeds now.

An England international under the age of 25, £7m is about right. Hes had a few good games for us, he is not united quality, but even if we sold him, we would get at least £6m for him, so it wasnt that fabulous.

He would get quite alot of games for Liverpool I reckon, if he was fit.

Problem is he's never developed he stagnated because he went to a club who play teh kind of football that he doesn't have the skills to play,

He was always playing above is level at Leeds always the underdog it's only now that we can see that.

Without wishing to upset you, I think that pretty much everything you've said there is bollocks.

He was a full international but never a first choice for England. Leeds were having a fire sale, everyone else got rock-bottom prices except you. Kewell has been a bitter disappointment for us but £3m was a steal at the time.

He wouldn't get on the bench for us. He doesn't score enough goals and doesn't bring anything else in terms of passing or movement. He'll be your 5th choice striker behind Larsson and Solskjaer and if you get your central midfield sorted out he'll hardly get a game.

You might get £5-£6m from a mid-table or lower club that were struggling to sign a striker.

    Sleep Laugh ok

    Do you agree though

In some players you can't see this happening when they are promising at the start

A good scout will be able to tell from looking at them when they are younger if they are going to progress to the top level.

Hence also why teams don't go about signing every kid from Buenos Aries (SP?) or Sau Paulo

I'm sure there are lots of other comparisons that we could make.... I still think you could have got him for £4m from Leeds if you'd negotiated better. Wasn't that just before Kenyon left for a bigger club? Maybe his eye wasn't on the ball Wink

So because they brought a potentially better player but it fucked up bigger than our Smith deal, they got the better deal?

Say what you like, I think Veron was a risk worth taking. Just won the league 3 seasons in a row and was trying to get another Champions league and he was one of the best midfielders in Europe. He still helped us to a title and had some great games in Europe.

Chelsea got a worse deal out of that anyway.

    Clutching at straws really.

How much were Morienties wages, how much were Smiths wages, can you really factor in a full year when he broke his leg?

Was it really? Were you successful (this was before the CL win), were you rich with strikers, did you have a lot of money to waste?
