    Darren Bent Empty Darren Bent

Post by Tweesus Fri Jan 05, 2007 11:55 am

Pardew has stated that Charlton will listen to offers for Bent, although he also stated that the price of £7m being banded around is below the mark, my guesses are that £9m would do the trick though or maybe lower fee and a player swap.

Who would be interested in him then?

The two primary names I can think of are West Ham and Aston Villa, Villa have made it clear they're in the market for a goalscorer Whilst Curbishley has also stated that West Ham are looking to strenghten the front line plus himself and Bent seem to have a good working relationship resulting in Bent scoring 18 goals in 36 games in the EPL last season.

    Any other teams?

Portsmouth may want to boost their attacking line and they will have the money but so far there has been nothing in the media

    Newcastle or Villa.

£10 million would probably get him.

Villa and West Ham both have enough money as would Portsmouth.

Newcastle is another good call although they seem to be overloading in the striking department at present, Martins, Bent and Owen are all quite similar

My guess is the big four managers excluding Chlesea knew or know about his availibility and have no plans to buy especially United with the signing of Larsson

Well hes hardly Chelsea quality, Liverpool bought two forwards in the summer, though if Crouch goes it may be a possibility.

Man Utd now have Larsson and Arsenal have three decent strikers on loan at present

They would all be interested in him sure. But i cannot see anyone paying close to 10 mill. 7 mill max. if newcastle want him he will end up there, as they are probably in a better position or seen as a bigger club than the rest. hope portsmouth sign him myself.

Last seaon he got 18 goals, the seaon before that 19.

And this season hes still managed to score despite playing for a really shit side and during a lot of managerial changes and hes still only 23.

IMO £9m wouldn't be that overpriced if you're getting yourself someone that can regularly score 15+ a season

right we are in a very good position to sign Darren Bent...

1)We can meet their price tag
    2) He wouldnt have to move from London
    3) We have Curbishley in charge...who Darren Bent has a great footballing relationship with
    4)Pardew wants Harewood/Mullins

so a part exhange deal could be well on the cards!

But at the same time, he wants to be in with a shout for england, leaving a team because they are likely to be relegated, to join another team who have a 50/50 chance of being relegated is not sensible from his view.

You couldn't ask for a better position Wink

Best to flog off Harewood as Charlton would also be in need of a striker

West Ham are doing a Pompey though, buying in a lot of quality + their only 3 points off the drop zone with Sheffield United ahead of them, they'll be fine

na I always think that excuse is bollocks...you play for the National team if the manager likes you...simple as.

If he's willing to sit on the bench then he clearly is Chelsea quality. Most important part is the fact he's willing to, and knows he's not likely to ever be good enough to be first choice.
