Anyone who bids over £12m needs shooting. My money is on him being at Tottenham or West Ham next season but it will be less than £17m.

Toni wasn't even that much, he was 11 million euros

So basically it means RVN + Toni = Bent.

We offered £18m for him in January...BUT was obviously due to our situation it was either spend £18m or posisbly lose £60m...

I think we may bid £10m for him though...

£10m is a lot but understandable given his age and the fact he has scored regularly whilst at a poor team.

We have to lot to spend...Bringing in Darren Bent, Scott Parker and a decent left back would be a great start!

I still don't get how they could have turned West Ham's offer down. Everyone thought the cookie guy went mad, but Charlton were even crazier to refuse.

If Darren Bent were a "white" Englishman and everything else remains the same. His records remain the same, numbers of goals the last two seasons, assists, minutes played etc. etc.

How much do you think a "white" Englishman Darren Bent was worth? If you didn't know, Darren Bent's records are pretty comparable to that of Rooney's, and Bent plays for a shitty team surrounded by second division talent, AND poorly coached too. <Ale>

I think Bent's a really good striker, and we haven't seen the best of him yet. Charlton most likely looked at Rooney's transfer value, compared his stats to Bent's, and saw that Bent commands at least that much money when compared with Rooney.

The amount of £17m for Bent is ridiculous I agree. However, looking at the whole picture I understand where Charlton are coming from. In fact, if I were Charlton's top boss I will argue with whomever wants to buy him that Bent's performances are comparable to Rooney's, and if Bent were to play for a team such as the Mancs, that he would have better performances than Rooney. That's what happens when teams like the Mancs pay Rooney money, and then here comes a player with comparable numbers while playing for a shite team. What's the potential buyer gonna say? "Bent's no Rooney though". People can be very subjective, BUT numbers don't lie. <Ale>

If they'd stayed up it would have been worth £60m to them.

Understandable why they kept their best player if there was a chance he could have helped them stay up

Can we blame Charlton for slapping a huge price tag on there main asset? Especially after all the Premiership clubs received the new mega TV money.

They won't get £17 million but they should get over £10 million for him.

If anything he is underhyped. He's barely had any chances for England, gets very little media coverage and on here he's pretty much regarded as being unfit to play in the premiership
