What a game, what a player Cesc Fabregas is. At only 19 he has to be in contention for best wonderkid - I can't think of a better one.

I half expected him to beat Jim Rosenthal over the head with his club.

Maybe there'll be photos of him in a Barca shirt
This match was a potential banana skin but the team did extremely well. Fab, Hleb, Djourou stood out in particular. Adebayor and Rosicky started brightly but faded a bit - Rosicky because he moved into the centre in 2H. Potential Achilles' heel - Hoyte, and I didn't like the way Alumnia went AWOL momentarily in the first half when Zagreb broke. Zagreb weren't up to exploting these but that won't be the case in PL.

I think Wenger will revert to flamini once hes match fit and Lehmann will be the regular keeper - Wenger was just resting him

He seems useful in the sense that hes big and can hold the ball up but he doesn't score many.
The jury's out.
As punty says, hes like a Drogba - very useful for the team maybe....

Re: Zagreb V Arsenal Thread
A great performance, when I seen the omissions from the squad before the match I thought there was a good chance that we may suffer a shock. Full credit to the manager and the players though, I never expected a performance of that style. Rosicky and Adebayor started well, van Persie, Hleb and Djourou (what a tackle by the way ) also performed well. However the guy that will take all the pludits and rightly so is Cesc.
IMO Cesc is going to take huge leap this year. One of the things that most people don't know about him is that he was actually a very prolific scorer at lower levels. In the U-17 world championship that he captained Spain to the final he won the Golden ball and Golden boot as a central midfielder.
It has taken him a little bit of time to get his forward game going at this level but there were good signs at the start of last season that his running into the box and finishing were starting to really kick on, like in the CL vs Juventus.
At the beginning of the season i told people that I was expecting him to get around 10 goals this season and he is already off to a good start.
Now Cesc is adding goals to his game that already contains so much he really is a scary prospect. We genuinely have a wondwerkid in our hands.

Re: Zagreb V Arsenal Thread
Good post Fab
Completely agree, he's maturing and as part of that he is learning how and when to make runs into the box. Thought he played superbly tonight. Was a tad nervous at half-time but I had faith that we were going to score although I expected it to only end 1-0 max to be truthful.
I'm feeling a bit more positive that if we lose cole and Cesc we'll be able to cope.
Mixed comments about the whole Reyes thing though. Wenger before the game implied that Reyes is staying and that we don't want robery, but leaving him on the bench says an altogether different story...

Hah.
Yeah, maybe we'll be treated to another master class of corners and heading from Nicky "sexy football" Butt.

I bet you wish Crouch could head a ball like that.

Quality goals but I'm afraid it was all I could catch. I was on the phone at the time.
I feel slightly smug because I said for ages when I joined 606 that Cesc was the best wonderkid in the premiership. Better than Rooney. I feel as if I'm being proven correct
Kimbo,
Crouchy doesn't need to head the ball - we play carpet football. ...That said, he did manage 2 headed goals against your lot last season

Re: Zagreb V Arsenal Thread
I really thought Reyes would start tonight and Wenger would put an end to the whole debacle. As far as I am concerned the player is as good as gone. Fair enough he says that he likes the club, but we need players that are happy in there life and that can adjust to London life, over the last 2 and half Reyes simply has'nt been able to do that. It is evident that he would like a move back to Spain and if the money is right (as long as we get our money back) I am all for it. If this is the case we need another wide player, the boss ruled out a move for Ribery today but I would not be suprised if the Boss was bluffing. Maybe we could get Wright-Phillips as part of the imminent Cole deal.
I am optimistic for the start of the season. However with Cole leaving and Reyes leaving a good possibilty we need to get sufficient replacements.

yeah maybe punty, drogba is more pyshical gets more assists and goals and looks better imo though, but a bit similar true.
cesc is true quality will get better and better. gilberto or diaby may be the slight weak link

Drogba - £26m
Ade - £7m
Diaby isn't a defensive midfielder, IMO hes a squad player or another player in a 4-5-1.
Btw diaby is quality, maybe at the agre he is now he would be a liability but he captains the French under 21 squad and is very highly regarded

Noth would generate a ton of money though say £20m for Cole and £15m for Reyes giving Wenger £35m to invest
