It's an overreaction based on the fact that so many people didn't rate him before the WC and now feel guilty because he was England's best player there.

If Carrick is £18m then £20m for Hargreaves looks right to me. It's no good comparing to attacking players like Ronaldo, the glory boys always go for more than the DMs and defenders.

I think 'desperate' is the wrong word for Man U 110%. It's more that they have the cash and they are prepared to pay for established players rather than prospects, or to wait for players to get close to the end of contracts. So I would say 'impatient and rich' rather than 'desperate'.
