The simple difference is, when Gerrard's playing shit he doesn't resort to the Cahillian tactics of fouling and swearing to "up his game". You're lucky you've got that useless cunt Rooney to take over from Keane in that regard.

Has one club ever gone through so many unsavoury characters in recent years? The Nevilles, Rooney, Van Horseface, Fergie, that Ginger cunt, Park the Dog Eater et-fucking-cetra.

Kindly piss off from our thread now.

Hmm.. Our choices have been a bloody thirsty lady-boy prime minister, a money-hungry arab whose patience lasts 12 hours, a building magnet who lies about our debts, a drunk irish man who thinks £200m is enough to buy and run the club successfully... or a couple of weathy american's with a history of running sports clubs.

    Easy choice Wink

LIVERPOOL FC RECOMMENDS OFFER FOR CLUB
    Paul Eaton 06 February 2007
Liverpool FC today announced that the Board have agreed the terms of an offer for the Club from Mr George Gillett and Mr Tom Hicks. The Board are unanimously recommending that the Club’s shareholders accept this offer.
Full details of the offer were announced earlier today to the Stock Exchange.

Commenting on the offer, David Moores, Chairman of Liverpool said:
“I believe this is a great step forward for Liverpool, its shareholders and its fans. This Club is my passion and forms a huge part of my life. After much careful consideration, I have agreed to sell my shares to assist in securing the investment needed for the new stadium and for the playing squad. I urge all my fellow shareholders to do the same and to support the offer. By doing so, I believe you will be backing the successful future of Liverpool Football Club.

"I am also delighted to accept the offer from the Hicks and Gillett families to continue my involvement in the Club by becoming Honorary Life President.”

Rick Parry, Chief Executive of Liverpool, commented: “This is great for Liverpool, our supporters and the shareholders – it is the beginning of a new era for the Club.

“The partnership created by George and Tom is very special. They are bringing to the table tremendous and relevant experience, a passion for sport, real resources and a strong commitment to the traditions of Liverpool. Their approach represents exactly the sort of genuine partnership that Liverpool has been seeking over recent times.

“We know that George and Tom want a long-term relationship with Liverpool and that they also understand the importance of investing in our success both on and off the field. They have made clear their intention to move as quickly as practicable on the financing and construction of our proposed new stadium at Stanley Park and also to support investment in the playing squad.

“This has been an important time for the Club. We now have the right partners for the future. I am absolutely certain we have now ended up in the right place, with owners who will help the Club succeed and prosper.”

Commenting on the offer, George Gillett and Tom Hicks said: “Liverpool is a fantastic club with a remarkable history and a passionate fanbase. We fully acknowledge and appreciate the unique heritage and rich history of Liverpool and intend to respect this heritage in the future. The Hicks family and the Gillett family are extremely excited about continuing the Club’s legacy and tradition.

“We are particularly pleased that David Moores and Rick Parry will have a continuing involvement in the Club. For us continuity and stability are keys to the future.”

Beats seven year sell-offs and 12 hour deadlines.

    Just finished the articles
    ok Ale

Phew, that's a read. Some good stuff in, especially pointing out that you really are not that far away. Just about two players that can produce a moment of magic.
And just about two-three palyers are the ideal amount togte next year, not some major overhaul, becuase that is exactly what may have cost Liverpool the title. It was needed, but having to blood in so many players in the first squad, can never go flawless. Man U got one, Chelsea two major ones, and the difference is for all to see.
I won't agree with Pennant though. I think he's at best a decent wing back-up to have. But he'll do another year if you strengthen other areas.

Good article. You go straight to the point, don't exagerate, embellish or have a penchant for vague (empty) platitudes. If you got rid of some of the "in-talk" (refering to posters on here, or previuous opinions) you could even try to get it posted on a footballing website. The opinion and dialogue is much better than 70% of the dross out there anyway.

    DD,

I'm not talking about Pennant as a starter by any means. I just think, as the only genuine right-winger in the squad, even with those particular signings, he has a role to play. I don't think he'll ever be a world beater, but his assist record already shows that he can offer something to the team.

Now, what that is, Rafa would have to decide. He's a great player to have on the pitch if teams are sitting deep and we're resorting to hopeful balls into the box. His natural instict to stay wide constantly atleast stretches the play and it's amazing how many times this year he's taken 2 players out of position, only for the situation not to be capitalised upon. Finnan, for all his qualities, rarely "under-laps". His runs are around the outside of Pennant usually. Something that isn't doing us many favours considering how wide Pennant plays. If Finnan ran the channels instead of just overlapping, we may get more benefit from Pennant's inclsuion. It's not his natural game either though, but it's something I've seen Alves do and think we could exploit.

Pennant's problem at the moment really is a mental one as much as anything. I was hopeful, after perfomances agaisnt Bolton and Chelsea, that would change, but it hasn't yet. He just fades in and out of games too much and doesn't come inside to pick up the ball. A shame really because it would allow Finnan to overlap more naturally (kind of making point one void.) and Pennant himself has the ability to pick out a pass in the middle, as shown by his assist for Fowler against Reading in the Carling Cup.

As much as everything else, his temprement is pathetic. Not even Rooney get so wound up by nothing, journeyman tactics. He's a sending off waiting to happen.

    He is.

I don't know whether it is a pernament thing or perhaps he is trying to prove to the Liverpool fans that he is commited to the cause and will fight anyone.

At one stage he was having a right go at Referee and Lee Carsley over a throw-in decision. He needs to conserve his energy for the actual game, as he showed against Chelsea.

Yes, it does, but it also shows that Liverpool have finishers (cue the sniggling). The stats proves two things, that some of his crosses are being finished and that he isn't completely worthless. One of the few times stats and reality aren't too far apart.
But he does play for a team in the upper regions of the table, so he better.

    true.

Like you say, in other words: there's potential (for something different). I agree.

Pennant's problem at the moment really is a mental one as much as anything. I was hopeful, after perfomances agaisnt Bolton and Chelsea, that would change, but it hasn't yet. He just fades in and out of games too much and doesn't come inside to pick up the ball. I'm not here to bash Pennant, but often he just "tries", and that's enough every time. Disregarding his initial horrible games, and take Everton (H) as an example; he got plenty of crosses in, but nearly all of those crosses were rushed. He beats the man runs with the ball and just crosses it into the box hoping for someone to it. In a congested situation, he should take his time and pick his man to lay the cross into (preferably someone just outside the box, and away from the 5 CBs). He didn't do that once. That would have proved the difference. He simply didn't adapt his strategy. Yes, he beat his man a few times, but if you can't adapt the cross to the situation then you're no further. He couldn't pick his man. His crosses were more counterattack/flank crosses ("lob it in there and there's enough space for the forwards to find").
    That was the frustrating part.

As much as everything else, his temprement is pathetic. Not even Rooney get so wound up by nothing, journeyman tactics. He's a sending off waiting to happen.
Glad I'm not the only who's noticed that.

We need a rightback, and it is common knowledge (according to football manager 2007) that Miguel supports Liverpool. He's good. Cheaper than Alves.
