Should the EPL become an 18 team league?

Its been discussed in the past....

Pro's:

-Players become less tired

Con's

- There will be less teams

Other factors

- Would the league become less competitive/less interesting?

Views from Serie A would be of interest as well to see how they feel about the 18 team league there and whether there have been calls to increase the number.

My personal view if that 18 teams would be too few. Teams have adjusted now by not taking the league cup seriously.

The main issue is in interantional comp years but I think through a subtle re-jigging of the fiuxtre list the build-up of fixtures towards the end of the season could be reduced

Seriously, no, it would be unbelievably harsh on the additional 2 clubs relegated in the year of change, and would result in more concentration of cash in the Prem.

You get so much money for being in the Premiership that I have no sympathy for players saying that they are tired or clubs complaining about fixtures.

I think an 18 club league actually strengthens the competition. Of course, there's little justice for the extra relegated teams the year of the change. But, I also beleive that a greater number of teams relegated and promoted improves the quality of the play.

Yo Twedle! The EPL not only should be an 18 team league, but it should include Celtic and Rangers to strengthen it. Make the initial relegation/promotion adjustment a 2 season battle to determine who stays and who gets relegated so every team is warned. After the two seasons, the 4 teams with the lowest points combined (2 seasons) get relegated.

Celtic and Rangers come in place of two relegated teams, and two more teams from the championship division take the place of the other two relegated teams. Then every year two teams get relegated/promoted. The leader of the championship division earns straight up promotion, and the second place team plays the winner of SPL for the right to the other spot and so forth every year.

I'll bet you that Celtic or Rangers will win the EPL at least one time within five years if that happens...

No way, needs to stay at 20...It used to be 22 teams....the two cups used to mean so much aswell.....

its only since Wenger started saying about the League Cup being shit, other managers started to follow suit....

players from seasons that aren't even that far back like between 94 and 99 the players were not fucking pussy's and would play 50 games a season if they had to with no fuss...with a full strength side in each of the cups...credit to Mourinho who wants to win everything

now people like Henry claim hes tired after less than half a season, players need to toughen up FFS...professional athletes who earn a great fortune and cannot even manager 45-50 games a season.

Well, with internationals it's more like 55-65 games a season, but still, 90 minutes x 65 matches = 97.5 hours a year. A decent premiership footballer earns in excess of 20 grand a week, or about a million pounds a year in basic salary. For less than 100 hours work.

That's why I thought about giving them TWO years to determine relegation so everyone's warned well ahead of time.

I don't know Hammer. I think Rangers and Celtic will be motivated, and may position themselves (financially and all) to compete and defeat the big four. They've done it before. Celtic won the European Cup before any English team FFS Hammer!

Celtic and Rangers are just bored out of their fucking selves in their league me thinks. With a proper challenge they can get up for it.

If the old firm want to be in the premiership then they should have to work their way up from the lower leagues, it's the only fair way to do it. Chucking a couple of teams out just to make space for a couple more big clubs would be criminal.

It would be good for the competition. For other teams not so good they could get there european places etc, as for them not good as they probably will miss there cl places for a few years anyway. But for the premier league very good and would make it more competitive and more viewers. I wouldn't be against it but it would not effect man utd much
