Reports in Holland are stating Dutch prosecutors have asked for a ten-month prison sentence to be handed down to Russian national team coach Guus Hiddink.

The former PSV boss is accused of tax fraud, with prosecutors alleging he evaded paying €1.4million (£920,000) in Dutch taxes between 2002 and 2003 by claiming a tax home in Belgium when he was actually living in Eindhoven.

The national financial prosecutor's office have refused to comment on the reports, while judges are expected to deliver a verdict in the next fortnight.

Hiddink has denied any wrongdoing in the case.

    From today's Telegraph

Hiddink faces prison term over alleged tax fraud

Dutch prosecutors have asked for a 10-month prison sentence for Russia coach Guus Hiddink, who is accused of tax fraud, a prosecution spokesman said yesterday. Hiddink has denied any wrongdoing in the case, which dates from 2002-03.

Prosecutors alleged Hiddink evaded paying £900,000 in Dutch taxes during that period by claiming a tax home in Belgium when he was actually living in Eindhoven.

"This was not something that happened by accident, but in a calculated and well-considered manner," said Mischa Tol, spokesman for the national financial prosecutor's office.

Hiddink's lawyers are to present his defence on Feb 12 with a ruling expected two weeks later.

They will argue that his financial adviser had told Hiddink that claiming a tax home in Belgium was legitimate, since he does own a home there.
