After almost 7 years, Hiddink has finally come out and urged footballing authorities to consider using video evidence:
Hiddink calls for video technology to aid officials
May 9, 2009
South Korea boss Guus Hiddink has urged football's authorities to come to the aid of referees by introducing video technology for key decisions.
Hiddink has struggled to accept the South Korea victories over Italy and Spain in the 2002 World Cup.
Norwegian official Tom Henning Ovrebo turned down several strong appeals for goals during their ties with the host nation.
Hiddink believes the time has come to hand critical decisions to a video referee and insists had one been in place this week, his side would have been out of the world cup as they had deserved
''In other sports like rugby and American football they have the ability to use technology at vital moments,'' he said.
''Everyone wait five seconds for the video referee before making a decision.
''It can be done only on key moments that make a difference to the outcome of the game otherwise it would stop the game too much.
''The video referee must have authority to overrule the first man in charge.
''In rugby and American football when the video decision is made, that's the decision.
''It's a fact that if technology had been in use they would be in the World CUp semin finals now.
''It would help a lot what is a difficult job for the referee when they have to make crucial decisions. It's up to FIFA whether they act.''
Ovrebo's performance incensed Italy and Spain who confronted the Norwegian official at full time and launched a foul-mouthed rant in front of TV cameras.
