Beckham wins recall to Real squad

David Beckham has been recalled to Real Madrid's squad for the game against Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday. Coach Fabio Capello had earlier said he would not pick the 31-year-old former England captain after he agreed a move to LA Galaxy next season.

But Capello has been forced into a re-think after criticism following the 1-0 home defeat against Levante.

Beckham's Real team-mates, including play-maker Guti, had lobbied Capello to bring him back into the team.

He has not played for Real since January, when he revealed his decision to move to America at the end of his contract in the summer.

Beckham's most recent appearance for Madrid came in the 2-0 defeat at Deportivo La Coruna in the club's opening match of 2007.

Since then he has been left out of the squads for the league games against Real Zaragoza, Real Mallorca, Villarreal and Levante, as well as both Copa del Rey games against Real Betis.

Of those six matches, Madrid have won two, drawn two and lost two. Both of those defeats have come in Madrid's last two matches - against Villarreal and Levante - as the club have slipped five points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.

They were also knocked out of the cup by Betis on the away goals rule

I thought all of Real's failing over the last 4 years were Beckham's fault?

He's been called into the squad of 20 that will travel to San Sebastian but only 18 will dress so it's still possible he'll watch from the VIP box.

I couldn't care less to be honest with you if he dresses or not. He's been poor all season long. It's not his fault we are crap but he certainly doesn't offer any concrete solutions to our problems.

I agree with Jaime that Beckham has been crap all season and I've cringed every time he's been on the field. However, I think he should be on the bench simply because we look clueless in attack so if it comes down to it, we might as well put in Beckham in the last 20 minutes and have him bombard crosses in the box non-stop. It would be ugly but then again, we couldn't possibly play any worse at this point.
