I agree it is never too early to start practising for next year's UEFA cup

Busy weekend ahead, Luis? Any cup games?

I'm not bitter though, just getting into the spirit of things for next week's match.

I agree that all the fun is beforehand (for Liverpool at least), when you can fantasize about how you are going to stop our attacking game. It must be really exciting being a supporter of a Benitez team.

Good thinking, Luis. I reckon Eto'o can hardly contain himself upon seeing that lone figure in white in the stands at Anfield.

A repeat of the 1st half Vs Newcastle and we stand no chance - still havent recovered from that tbh.

I think we'll create enough chances to win there - like we've done in almost every game this season- whether we take our chances is another story.

If we do, we'll win comfortably

scratch do you mean the missed chances or the mistake ?

I hoping he will go with

    ....................reina

    finnan.....carra......agger.....riise

    gerrard...momo.....xabi.......aurelio

    ..............kuyt........bellamy

we'll need two quick and hard working strikers to have a chance I think. save crouch for the home leg when we will be more on top.

Is mascherano eligible? I know he isn't for the league but maybe he is for the CL. not sure

    Missed chances obviously.

I dont know about Bellamy to be honest.

Not exactly clinical is he - i would've thought the game against Newcastle proved this.

I'd rather have Crouch and Kuyt tbh - but i can see where you're coming from.

Would playing Mascherono in this game be a good idea even if he was eligible? I somehow dont think so... for obvious reasons.....

Well obviously he won't play. was just asking. wouldn't begrudge him a spot on the bench though. Zenden or mascherano??? huummmm Wink

    with the crouch, bellamy issue

in crouch's favour he gives us the long ball option and a bigger threat from set pieces which may be our best chance of getting an away goal

against him is he will be isolated and when he has too much time too think he is usually useless

Id prefer the hassling and speed of bellamy TBH for this game. my nightmare situation would be crouch as the one striker and gerrard in the hole. hope he doesn't go this way but I wouldn't be surprised. playing the team I posted at least we know that the workrate will be at it's absolute maximum which is how chelsea have prospered in the past against barca. we should be able to press them pretty well with this team.

    Cruyff fears Liverpool air raid

JOHANN CRUYFF reckons Barcelona’s Champions League dreams could be left high and dry by Liverpool’s aerial assault.

The Dutch legend is convinced the club he managed to European Cup glory in 1992 are more than capable of defending the trophy they lifted in May.

But he sees Rafa Benitez’s Reds as a very genuine threat when they come to the Nou Camp for the first leg of Wednesday’s last-16 clash.

Cruyff, who also won four La Liga titles in charge of Barca, believes 6ft 7in beanpole hitman Peter Crouch and strike pal Dirk Kuyt pose the biggest danger.

He insisted: “Barcelona against Liverpool is the absolute top match in the Champions League and, normally speaking, it shouldn’t be a problem for Barca.

“But the last times I saw Liverpool playing I have to say that, with Kuyt and Crouch up front, they played some excellent stuff.

“The two of them form an enormously good partnership.

“Crouch is technically better than folk think and Kuyt’s positional play is very good — in the air nobody wins anything against them.

“If Barcelona are forced back, then every throw-in or set-piece will result in a problem.

“With English teams you have to make sure that you are as far away as possible from your own goal.”

But despite Cruyff's admiration for the Anfield club's strike pairing, he still believes Frank Rijkaard's side have the necessary talent to secure victory.

"The Barcelona trademark is a high-speed game which could break down the Liverpool lines,"

"Then the middle line, with dangerous men like Steven Gerrard, cannot link up with Kuyt or Crouch.

"By doing that you take the sting out of the English."
