Players you thought were good, but maybe you was wrong

Who are the players when they played for your club, you thought they were great maybe even World Class. But as soon as they left your club and you watched them play, you thought maybe I overrated him when he played for my club.

e.g. Reyes at Arsenal better than Ronaldo, now they don’t want him back.

Or the opposite. When a player was at your club, you thought he wasn’t that good, but when he joined another club and you watched him play, you wish he never left.

e.g. maybe Cambiasso, left Real on a free.

We didn't think Reyes was great. He has massive potential but his progress seems to have stalled. I thought he may blossom back in his beloved Spain but it doesn't seem to have happened for him there either so far.

How has he been exposed, I wonder? If anything has been made clear is that he's a quality player (a #10 no less), who has the creativity, vision and talent to pull off many things. Can take so-so teams by the scruff of the neck and pull them up the table; and can enrich any bigger team with moments of magic and distribution.

Reminds me of Becks in a sense: fancy (borderline arrogant) off pitch image, even though he's a hard worker, model worksman on pitch and for the club...

Don't get me wrong, i will kill to have VDV back at Ajax .. but the manner he left and his attitude that he is the 'messiah' for HSV, sends the wrong message.

I've always maintained when it came to 'technique' VDV > Sneijder ..

Paddy has past his peak long ago but he has only played crap for six months since he left us( he said he was injured at the time , don't know). He's having a good season with Inter and was great for juve in the first half of the season.
