Which league is the strongest?

Top 3 aside.

Of the next bunch of leagues, which is the strongest?

The Contenders

- Ligue 1 (France)
- The Bundesliga (Germany)
- Primiera Liga (Portugal)
- Eredivisie (Holland)

The Major Clubs

France:

Monaco, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, PSG

Germany:

Bayern, HSV, Leverkusen, Werder Bremen, Dortmund

Portugal:

Benfica, Porto, Sporting, Braga, Boavista

Holland:

PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord, AZ, Vitesse

Serie B.

Sure, Juve still have some incredibly good players but they also lost some world class players and aren't anywhere near the standard of last season in that regard

I'd say Lyon, Werder and Bayern are possibly stronger. Lille? PSV? Behave, just because they're knocking you out.

I'll stick by it, PSV>>>Juve - they have some real quality in their ranks - Gomes, Alex, Salcido, Koné, Farfan, Cocu, Mendez - all of these are top class players

Yeah man. Thanks. I still thought you were mod. I sorted my acct out.

Juve are not much weaker than last season.... for all the few players they lost, they bought/called back some really talented youngsters (Bojinov, Palladino, Marchionni, etc)... and they have a few more really good ones they can recall next season.

IMO, Juve are still among the top 10-15 clubs in Europe.

Napoli, Genoa, & Bologna aren't too bad either. Serie B is strong this season, but perhaps not as strong as the 4 leagues mentioned above.

If I have to rank, based on the top few teams, I would say:

1. Bundesliga
2. Ligue 1
3. Primiera Liga
4. Eredivisie

I'm not so sure myself.

I think I might rate Ligue 1 higher than the Bundesliga now - for a long time the Bundesliga has been better but the last 2 years I'd say that ligue 1 has been stronger - the dfences are miles better - maybe there isn't s much quality in attack but there is strength in depth

Pfft, very difficult question....and I don't think anyone will be able to post an unbiased answer to it

Based on reputation it would be obvious to say :

Ligue 1 & Bundesliga > Primiera Liga (isn't it Superliga or something like that ?) & Eredivisie

If you look at the European competitions you'll see that the teams from Portugal and Holland are (almost consistently) punching above their weight...so it looks like we're all selling them short.

So I don't know : to tough a call to make.

Apart from Lyon the next 4 or 5 best teams would be from Germany..and even then it might be unfair to rate Lyon above Bayern...

I almost went for Heerenveen but to be honest, apart from the big 4 in your league there really ain't too much else to know about

Wholeheartedly disagree Deano dear.
PSV are at least as good as Bremen, and Bayern has been underfiring as well. Stuttgart and Lille aren't even in PSV's or AZ's league.

For starters. the argumentation is the same as people who want the CL to consist only of teams from the 'big 3' - thus including the likes of Everton, Bolton etc over the abovementioned. I don't think I need to explain what's wrong with the argumentation.

To give it an honest look I'd say that the best teams from the smaller leagues are like this

Lyon - Bayern - PSV - Werder Bremen - AZ - Porto - Benfica - Sporting - Lens - Schalke - Ajax - Lille

Which in turn gives a whole other perspective to this whole league comparison.

FACT:
Some teams are better than others
Bigger league = bigger money, but more money doesn't equal better players or team/efficiency.
Some teams in bigger leagues are inferiour to teams in lesser leagues

Championship and Serie B as a whole can't hold a candle to any of the leagues mentioned above.

Nothing to be ashamed off.

We (Dutchies) know what are place is (unlike the Germans for example), we ourselves call de Eredivisie a Micky Mouse league
