Figo for me, Giggs has had a great season but he hasn't been all that for the previous 4/5 seasons.

Some people will say Figo because:

    UEFA Euro 2000 MVP
    Ballon d'Or - 2000
2001 FIFA World Player of the Year

I never watched La Liga when i was a kid, so i don't know how good Figo was at Barca when he first joined. But i did watch Giggs.

    So i would say

    Early Career
    Giggs > Figo

    In there Prime
    Figo > Giggs

    End of Career
    Giggs > Figo

I didn't know this before, just read it on Wikipedia:

In 1995, Figo looked poised to join one of the big clubs of Europe, but a dispute between Italian clubs Juventus F.C. and Parma, Figo having signed contracts with both clubs, resulted in an Italian 2-year transfer ban on Figo, effectively stopping any moves to Italy.

You learn something new every day.

Be nice to know how many of those were penalties, as I know he took them for Real Madrid. Must be anywhere from 10 - 20.

Hmm tough one. I'm gonna have to say Giggs, because depsite having a couple of average-poor seasons, he really has been consistently brilliant for United. However, at his peak, I'd say Figo was probably the best winger I've ever seen, but since 2002/3, I really haven't been that impressed by him (Euro 04 aside), which is why Giggs gets my vote.

    just using the standard 25-29.

this season and last season Giggs has been great, i think playing CM last season has improved his game. the seasons before that (2-3) i was very critical of Giggs, he was always giving the ball away.

    ok

He was brilliant the second half of last season in central midfield.

This season he's been brilliant in patches, especially the first couple of months of the season.

    Tough one to call.

Both been great but Figo was arguably the best player in Europe in his last couple of seasons with Barca - leading up to Euro 2000 where he was excellent.

I always preferred him on the left cutting in but he always seemed to play on the right for Real.

Posted it on the Prem board in the 'best player in England' thread...something like that.

Giggs was great, Figo was better.

You forgot to mention Figo was World and European Player of the Year...
Figo was also a big part of the team that won the under 20 World Championship.

Like others have said, at their peaks Figo was better. Around 2000, alot of people thought Figo was the best player in the world or at least 2nd to Zidane. Giggs never achieved that status. Maybe people could tell us how good Figo was in his early days since i didnt watch that much La Liga then and the only thing i caught were his Euro 96 games and the qualifiers against Germany for the 98 WC. I definately remember Giggs being excellent when he burst onto the scene.

Giggs for me , he is Welsh so he was never even a contender for these WPOY , EPOY awards and was playing in premiership which was considered lesser then Serie A and La Liga(which was probably true).
Giggs for being so loyal 700 matches for one club is no joke , Giggs for being so great when we need him and Giggs because I am very very biased.

    Certainly.

But looking at it in the late 90's the Italian league was the best. With players like Batistuta, Ronaldo, Nedved, Zidane, Figo etc.... So you can see why the awards went there.

The Premeirship is improving all the time so maybe very soon we will see the winner from these shores.

Henry should have won in 2004 for me. <Ale>
