At this moment of time, if you consider the form of the players, I would actually not nominate Lahm and Klose, the only German players that were nominated in that thread. Says it all really.
Frings definitely deserves to be nominated, he is one of the very best central midfielders in the world, consistant great performance for club and country for years. If you nominate Lahm because of his World Cup matches, you definitely have to nominate Ballack for his international matches, consistent great performances for die Mannschaft for years. Frings + Ballack = one of the very best central midfield partnerships in the world, only rivaled by Gattuso and Pirlo IMHO.
And going by form, Schneider deserves to be nominated also. Being 33, he has his best season ever, some truly world class performances this season, be it in the league, in the UEFA Cup or for die Mannschaft.
So at this moment of time, I'd nominate Frings, Schneider and Ballack. Lahm's form is improving again, if he continues like this he'd be nominated also. Klose only if he stops thinking about his contract and starts to perform for his club (and country) again, that should take a while (unfortunately). And Wiese, if he keeps up this great form for another season.
