    Shocked

    Forlan 'rejects Sunderland offer'

Forlan was top scorer in Spain's Primera Liga in 2004/05
Villarreal's former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan claims he has turned down an offer from Sunderland boss Roy Keane to join the Black Cats.
Forlan, 27, played alongside Keane at Old Trafford between 2002 and 2004 before moving to Spain with Villarreal.

"Roy called me to explain his project at Sunderland and offered me the chance to play there as one of the main signings for next season," said Forlan.

"I am very honoured he called but I am happy here."

The Uruguay striker, who was top scorer in the Primera Liga in 2004/05, is under contract with Villarreal until 2010.

Surely Roy should wait until promotion is a certainty?

Forlan would be a good signing. Should Sunderland go up they will be 10x a team than the rubbish they had a year ago.

He can have him. Forlan is too good for them, Duff isn't.

    Imagine the scenario...

5 mins after having discussed a possible transfer to the Camp Nou, Keane calls up Forlán about playing for Sunderland.. Laughing

you cant blame the guy for his ambition, although having said that i think he should really stick to trying to win automatic promotion, Derby and Brum have every chance of finishing higher than Sunderland and if they only make the play-offs then, as history has shown - the 3rd placed team doesnt really have any advantage over the 6th placed team.

How did that d manage to migrate 30 letters down the sentence ?!

Incidentally how has Forlan done since 04/05 ? I really am quite ignorant about Spanish football.

He exploded in his first season and was the top scorer in the league. Really linked up well with Riquelme. Then last year he wasn't so great, despite Villarreal's run to the CL semifinals. Their league position was a bit low and goals came from different places.

This season has been mixed, he's shown glimpses of his ability with some good goals, but Villarreal as a whole have struggled again. The injuries to G. Rodriguez and Pires hit them hard and it seems to me lik they're trying to re-find their footballing identity.

why leave a club on the up where he could easily become a legend for a team that at best will finish mid table. whereas if we can kick on we'll be in the ECL next season

Frank, Aguero has a GBP 30mil buyout clause, correct? Is that enough?

    re. Forlan - three possibilities

    1) it's some sort of a private joke between Keano and Forlan - I believe they were good mates at ManU

    2) Keano has the photos

    3) Keano is serious lol!

You want to tie him down for a bit more don't you?

Saw the match on Saturday. Very well played, you outsmarted Sevilla who were getting jittery as soon as the first goal went in. Good headbutt too, best I've seen since Zidane's Biggrin
