Was it only I who thought that Gerrard was pretty much bollocks tonight (compared to the rest of the Pool players - Crouch and Kuyt aside)?

    You think?

He was very poor. Never has a player rated so highly given the ball to the opposition so frequently.
    f@ck off Waft...

He was amazing. He played incredibly well. He won so many balls he shouldn't have and his distribution was near perfect. He probably misplaced 2 passes, at most. Just because he failed to score a wonder goal doesn't mean he had a bad game.

It can work, Everton use it well. But Chelsea need Essien in there. Mikel Lampard Makelele just lacks a lot of things.

    True say.

Essien is the ideal player for the right diamond role.

The other 3 CMs we have arent really. Perhaps Mikel could work in the DM role. There's not really room for a Lampard in the formation certainly.

£200 million. Not too much more than what you spent on 6 players.

And didn't you go 2 seasons where you only won the Carling Cup?

I think S4P is laughing because of what he has achieved there he should be given allowed to carry on, theres a fine line between winning and 'almost' winning.

However Abramovich is from a corporate background where there are targets and if you don't hit them, you expect not to stick around.

This summer will certainly be interesting.

Money, players, relationship with board.... wouldn't be my issue, actually getting the Chelsea team back to 4-3-3 and playing the ball on the floor would be what i'd want to see if i were a Chelsea fan.

Lampard was dire, but Gerrard should only get 6/10 maximum.

On the other hand, Mascherano, Pennant and Zenden were all superb.

Did no one actually watch the game? Gerrard was incredible until he was pushed out wide. Chelsea had more of the game after the change...A coincidence?

All Gerrard did was chase players down and tackle them (sometimes unfairly). I thought that was Mascherano's job?

Fair play to him though, he did set up Agger's goal well.

Personally i thought Essien was pretty much faultless, never looked out of place once tonight even though he is not a defender by trade.

However perhaps the lack of any real potent strikers made the job a little easier.

It's amazing the influence partiality has on a spectacle. Yes, it was mightily tense towards the end, pens etc, but it was a shockingly bad game IMO.

    My Liverpool ratings:

Reina 8 - Did very well in the shoot-out, but left his goal completely open twice, in which we should have scored.
Finnan 7 - Rarely troubled, didn't get forward much either.
Carragher 8 - Handled Drogba well.
Agger 7 - Comfortable, but rarely tested.
Riise 8 - Got forward well.
Pennant 8.5 - Troubled Ashley Cole a lot at times.
Mascherano 9 - Broke up so much of our possession. Superb.
Gerrard 6 - Little attacking threat.
Zenden 7.5/8 - Offered width, but didn't get as many crosses in as I'd have thought.
Crouch 5 - No real threat.
Kuyt 6 - Took the 'offside' goal well, but should have finished his header. Offered little threat otherwise.

    Alonso 6 - Average.
