Real Madrid sign Diarra for 26 Million Euros!

El Olympique de Lyon francés anunció este viernes que ha llegado a acuerdo con el Real Madrid para el traspaso del centrocampista malí Mahamadou Diarra, según informó en su 'web'. Ramón Calderón, más tarde, confirmó el fichaje en Radio Marca.

El club madridista pagará 26 millones de euros al Lyon por la incorporación del centrocampista. Diarra se convierte, tras las llegadas de Cannavaro, Emerson y Van Nistelrooy, en el cuarto fichaje blanco desde que Calderón accedió a la presidencia.

Con este anuncio el Real Madrid consigue, de esta forma, hacerse con los servicios de Diarra, que ya había mostrado reiteradamente su pretensión de dejar el Lyon para incorporarse al club que preside Ramón Calderón. El italiano Fabio Capello, nuevo entrenador madridista, tenía como prioridad en el capítulo de fichajes la incorporación del africano para reforzar la línea medular del equipo blanco.
Se acabó el 'culebrón'

Han sido varias las semanas de negociaciones entre la entidad que preside Jean-Michel Aulas, quien en un principio había considerado intransferible a Diarra para luego solicitar 35 millones de euros y, más tarde rechazar una oferta del Real Madrid de veinte millones.

Nacido el 28 de mayo de 1981 en Bamako, Diarra llevaba cuatro temporadas en el Lyon, en el que ha sido un elemento fundamental para los títulos conseguidos los últimos años y sus buenas actuaciones en la Liga de Campeones.

Poderoso físicamente, el malí llegó al OFI Creta griego en la campaña 1998-99 y después militó tres campañas en el Vitesse Arnhem holandés antes de llegar al Lyon.

I'm worried about reports that Capello might play a 4-4-2 with Diarra and Emerson in the middle. That would leave no creativity in the middle of the field. Unless we play 4-5-1 with 2 DMs and Guti/Cassano/Raul in front of the brick wall that Emerson and Diarra would provide. Personally, I'd rather have Emerson on the bench. He would be a nice supersub.

That's a bit naive. Remember the 4-2 at the Bernabeu and at Stamford Bridge? You could havbe certainly used a DM in those games. And remember that the best team of the last 20 years (Real Madrid 1997-2002) had a proper DM.

Ahhhh yes.. but I think/hope that we will see Iniesta playing that role more , as keeping possesion is a defense in itself but our main choice will still be Edmílson. Van Bommel needs to up his game a lot if he wants to stay, I think that Motta is a better player than him.

I would be worried about your creativity if you plan on two defensive midfielders.. and even in a 4-5-1 you could end up like Villarreal or Argentina where all passes have to go through a single player.

(BTW what happened to the much hyped Ramos-Cannavaro duo yesterday )

Only time will tell. But like I said, I'm against playing 2 DMs.

Regarding last night, Cannavaro scored a cracker. That's all I care about

I see a typical Capello formation now, a defensive boring Madrid is just a sad sight to see considering they + Barca combined have been the premiere attacking teams for the past 10 or so years.

and it will be nice for once to see us defend somewhat good and not just rely on casillias for that.
but im very sure that next season we will go for attaking players and attacking football.and who knows how we will play this season if the top players deliver what they can.

People also tend to forget that Capello's Milan from the 90s and his Roma team from a few year's back played quite offensively. With the players Capello has at his disposal in Real Madrid, I doubt he will have us playing like Juve. We definitely won't be the Madrid of 5 years ago, but I can still see us scoring a lot of goals. We will probably have to wait until our next coach for champaign football to come back, but that's OK as long as we're winning titles and we don't play negatively.

I've seen this article on another website and it's definitely dated. Mijatovich met with Lyon representatives last night. Not only has Diarra commented on his delight to be coming to Madrid, but so has Capello. I don't think the Madrid directives would tell Capello the signing has been made if it weren't true. Capello would be made to look like a fool otherwise.

Something similar happened with the Van Nistelrooy transfer. After being announced in Spain, there were articles in England claiming the signing was not completed yet.

It was also on lyons website.
