I thought alonso did really well for us despite the criticism. him and mascherano made prilo, gattuso and ambrosini almost invisible

we suffered because riise was horrendous, as were zenden and then kewell so all of our moves down the left were wasted

pennant was getting into good opportunities but wasting them

and as ive told you and pierre for a long time, gerrard is shite in that position

Kas, I dont like Liverpool and I am one of there biggest critics for the negative football they play. But they were more attacking than Milan tonight and they were the better side.

The first goal came out of nowhere totally against the run of play, it was a gift from the footballing Gods, for getting robbed 2 years ago.

Even after that Milan tried to defend the lead for the whole second half, it was only after Zenden and Mascha came of giving them the freedom of the pitch, did they create an opportunity to score.

Liverpool didnt create that many clear cut opportunites due to poor abilty (Zenden/Kewel/Pennat/Kuyt) but they got into good positions and the intent to score was there.

What an awful game of football.

Milan weren't poor - Liverpool were just great at closing them down.

Problem is - you put that amount of effort into closing people down and you're bound to lose something from the attack.

I don't think any of the Liverpool players were bad.. you were a victim of tactics, that meant that Zenden and Pennant had no one to cross the ball to, since Gerrard and Kuyt aren't box players..

You confused me and Oleguer. I know all of us Barça fans speak similar stuff, but come on now...

First of all, I don't think any side managed to create real chances, I am just saying that Liverpool's attacks seemed more headless than Milan's. Liverpool had more, but there was no one to finish them off.. Milan tried to keep possession and despite Inzaghi being invisible 99% of the time he was there for the crucial second goal.

A couple of years ago he set up the winning goal v Chelsea in the semi from that position - scored and won a pen v Milan in the final and put in a match winning performance at Goodison in the derby from that position too.

Maybe he's just $h!t sometimes regardless of position.

Still believe, that given time - he can become an awesome player in that position.

He didn't once have to pick up the ball back to goal and his energy & movement caused Milan all sorts of problems in the 1st half hour... his passing was very hit & miss, and it gradually got worse as the game went on. There was one point where Kewell knocked the ball down across goal - and instead of bursting in in trademark fashion, he just stood there and let Milan mop up.

I think what seperates him from Kaka' is confidence carrying and dribbling the ball. He rarely took on a defender tonight - even though he's got plenty of strength & pace. A classic case of a player having the tools, but not using them at all, IMO.

Pretty average game. Milan were awful, and Liverpool fared little better.

Seedorf, Gerrard, Alonso, Ambrosini were incredibly poor. Nesta MOTM, Masch a distant second. Thought Pennant, Kaka, Pirlo were decent.

Listening to 606 and it's the usual - "Ref was poor" "Liverpool outclassed Milan etc". Fact of the matter is that I'm struggling to remember one bit of decent player from either side, and whilst Milan were hardly world beaters on the night, Liverpool brought very little quality to the table either.

The problem was that the likes of Zenden, Pennant and Kuyt arent good enough at this level to capitalise on the situations they found themselves in. I never said Dida was forced to make save after save, but the intent to attack was there. Even when it was 0-0 Milan, never commited players forward, I dont think any Milan players (apart from Inzaghi/Kaka) ventured into the penalty are when the ball was in open play.

It would have been interesting to see how the second half would have panned out had they not scored that lucky goal. As Milan were offering nothing attacking wise.

Anyway I am happy Milan won, as I dont have to hear the we've won it 6 times and Rafa this, Rafa that. However Liverpool played alot better than I thought they would and they can be proud as I think they were the better team. Coming from a united fan, thats a pretty big compliment.

Rather a strange match. Both teams were well below par but Milan outmanuoevered Liverpool completely. Think Rafa got his team wrong - it would have been better to start with Kuyt and Bellamy to rip through the creaky Milan defence. Glad in a way Milan won - the last hurrah for some of their great players - Maldini especially.

maybe but we did control the game. with a bit of luck it could have been very different for rafa. I would be more inclined to criticise plsying gerrard where he did and starting zenden

they were terrible tonight but it's easier to lose it to a club that oozes class rather than a pack of c**ts like chelsea for example

It was a strange game

I am obviously bitterly dissapointed that Liverpool have not won a 6th European cup tonight, it hurts, but one team has to lose in the final, and although Liverpool deserved more, it's football, sometimes the better team doesn't win.

What I hope we achieved tonight is we have shown that we can play good football and show we don't just sit back, park the bus and then pounce on our opposition, we really did go for it tonight, we had a few early chances, but we didn't take them and once that happens you'll get punished.

I really really felt we were going to get back into the game at 1-0 down, we cut Milan open a few times and they were a little nervous, Pennant in particular had a lot of the ball and caused problems for Milan, but the crosses into the box weren't effective, it was crying out for Crouch really.

Kaka didn't really do much, we kept him quiet and that is a big achievement, but twice Milan had a moment of excellence and twice they scored, once they went 2-0 up it was too late, although I must admit I had a little hope when Kuyt scored.

Well done to Milan though, they wanted it so badly, and it may relieve some of the pain from 2005 from a lot of their supporters, they are a great club, with great history and passionate fans.

I disagree. The fact that Zenden and Pennant lacked ANY crossing ability and failed to deliver one final ball meant that if Crouch was on the pitch origonally, it wouldn't have made much difference in that respect.

Gerrard can play off Crouch much more effectively than he can play off Kuyt though. Crouch should have started for that reason alone.
