He says exactly the same thing week in week out, despite rubbing shoulders with the like of Carlton and The Crookster, none of their wisdom has rubbed off on him.
Nice shoes though.

Fair play to Alan ;
Probably when I said "You'll never win anything with kids" about Man United in 1995-96, and they went on to win the double. I should have said "They'll never win everything with kids."
Still a fantastic pundit.

I remember a while back he was trying to describe Arsenals shirt colour, but couldn't, and the main commentator just goes 'well it doesn't really matter what the colour is does it?'
Such a nonse, and even his colleagues know it.

I sometimes think David Pleat goes out of his way to mis-pronounce names. He get's even the most simplest ones wrong. Strangley, I find him somewhat endearing though.
Ian Wright, Lawro, Hansen, Merson, Gray, Nicholas, Atkinson, Key's are all mugs.
Don't mind Wilkins, Redknapp, Platt, McCallister or Dixon.
Incidentally, what did Andy Gray say during/after the game?

Same. He's like your grandad as he's reaching the end of the line... You still love him, and occasionally he says something interesting, but really, you pity him and realise he's lost any marbles he had.
Atleast he really seems to enjoy his football though, which is something more than that misarable Pr!ck Gullit.

I remember Pleat calling Shevchenko which is relatively easy phronetically "Chavchenko".
Isn't Andy Gray a manu fan though? He really seems to like manu and is always positive about them. Also I think his tv career began with Sky and when manu started becoming successful so maybe he has a connection with them.
For liverpool he seems to like Gerrard but not anyone else, so he really shouts when gerrard scores but doesn't for the others.

He did it last week when Kaka scored his first goal, mentioning how Man Utds defence had held firm. Kaka then scored straight after. "I feel like a right Jonah Clive."

Certainly picked up on the Liverpool bitterness.
He gets accused of supporting loads of teams though, some say United, some say Chelsea, some say Arsenal.
I've always though Arsenal were his favourites (after Everton of course).

Yeah, I don't think he's particularly pro-Man U - just anti-Liverpool and pro-English teams.
Edit: Unlike Clive Tyldesley, who, if commentating in Athens, will probably mention Barcelona 1999 as many times as he mentions Istanbul '05 during the game.

I don't know who;s worse, Tyldesley or Drury. Drury's cliches get so tiring, while Tyldlsey starts acting like an arrogant twat when English teams are doing well, and he's changed his mind about 5 times during the year as to who the best player in the world is. Sounded like he was about to climax when Rooney scored his second last week aswell!

Re: Andy Gray
"Forget the two away goals. With one swing of Wayne Rooney's boot on Tuesday night the whole mindset of the tie changed in an instant. The pressure has been heaped on Milan, and I believe that Milan side is ordinary.
Not only will United get a result in Italy next week, they will beat Milan in their own backyard. I think they've got the Italians running scared - they're not a great team and they know it.
Sure, Kaka is brilliant but go through the team - the keeper is dodgy and the back four is creaking and should hold no fear for United's forwards. Anything else to be scared of? Pirlo? No. Seedorf? No. Ambrosini? No. Gilardino? Definitely not.
I believe we'll have an all-English final. The only question is whether Chelsea or Liverpool will be involved. "

Italy breeds 'em: Beppe Dossena, Fulvio Collovati, Gianni Cerquetti... take your pick. Bruno Pizzul, the great grandaddy of biased Italian commentators, was pensioned off a couple of years ago, but he was a pastmaster of "piloting" a game. No matter what your eyes were seeing, he'd tell you how it really was
Actually, I've been living here for 23 years and there's been no sign of improvement (if anything, they get worse!), so I'm now convinced it's a gene thing. If anyone ever praises foreign football, or criticises the domestic game, they don't last long Maurizio Pistocchi was certainly one of the more acute observers of the game, with an excellent knowledge of international football. But he didn't cream himself over the likes of Totti, and he also blotted his copybook last year when Barcellona beat Udinese in the CL by describing it as a footballing lesson, etc., to the extent that the Udinese manager complained on TV! I haven't seen Pistocchi since, though he might be working for a private network.
We used to crease up laughing at the comments of Giacomo Bulgarelli and Flavio (?) Colombo on TMC in the mid-80s: "This no. 7 for Brazil looks useful... do you think he's good enough for Serie A, Bulgarelli?". "No, I don't think he's quite ready yet, Colombo". Give us a break!
I was amazed when I first came out here to hear commentators using the first person plural when following matches. "Corner for our lads!"... "If we can press them in their third of the field, then we're home and dry!". I suppose the attitude is: "Why bother to pretend we're impartial when we obviously aren't?". But it becomes a trifle tedious when they're repeatedly saying: "That was a foul on Pirlo, but unfortunately the referee didn't see it".

Re: Andy Gray
Cesc, you got it wrong: what Pleat actually said was "the sight is in end" ;-)
Though I was watching Sky in the pub so missed it, but heard about that one.
Don't believe anyone is still giving Hansen any credit; I would scarcely say it's an exaggeration to say his judgement is pretty much wrong on everything. Leaving alone his constant myopic wild exaggeration. Latest was his preposterous attack on Dida this week, as if he isn't an international keeper who's arguably been top-10 standard in the past, "my granny could have stopped Rooney's shot at the near post" etc etc... as if he'd ever have the balls to criticize the likes of Robinson...
Apart from the fact that it's disappointing to see a Scot trot out this constant, blind, blinkered bias in favour of England and English clubs. Surely he's been rumbled by now by anyone with any football sense.
Tyldesley gets on my tits too, and not just his voice. At least one columnist rightly tore into him for his crass "Who cares?" remark as the camera dwelt briefly on Lothar Matthäus slumped in despair after the '99 final. He was presumably trying to ape Barry Davies's "Where were the Germans?... But frankly, who cares?" in some hockey game in the '88 Olympics I think, but as was said: here was a man who at 39 had won everything and achieved everything the sport had to offer, except a European Cup winner's medal, distraught because this last chance had been so cruelly ripped away from him at the last minute. What kind of clueless, callous, judgement-free idiot would come up with commentary like that?

Well, you can't really blame him for writing off Gilardino. His goal wasn't anything special and came late on when Man. Utd. were pressing high up the field.
That part was the only part of his article I agreed with.
