By top 4 standards you mean, no non-top 4 club could ever spend £17m on a player like Hargreaves, i think most English clubs would be looking to spend a maximum of £8m on a player of his type.
    ok

carrick and hargreaves for a combined total of around 35 million is a totally frightening reflection on today's transfer market

Still the papers today are reporting jenas to be worth 15 million and lescott 10 million. Laughing

    incredible
it is not worth buying him with18m.too dear!
BTW, for which did Carrick play before coming to Red Devil?

    Spurs

a club that don't sell their best players. isn't that right kimbo Shocked Wink

WE don't sell our best players, that's what matters, i don't care about the Spuds. ok Ale

I think he means arsenal are not helping the english team

but buying english players has hardly had a direct impact on the english team in the past few years has it?

Hargreaves won't play any better than he did at the world cup now that he has boosted his bank account

I guess it is good in the sense that an English player is considered good enough to be purchased by Man U.

But I don't think playing in the Prem will make Hargreaves perform any better for England than he already does.

Don't fully agree with what Rez said, however teaming up with Rio, Neville, Carrick & Rooney must help.

As I said the other day if Carrick and Hargreaves can form a good partnership for United surely that would benifit England?

    @ kimbo

you will enjoy this article today then Wink

IF OWEN-LY BENITEZ WOULD SWALLOW HIS FOOLISH PRIDE
    20 May 2007
STEVEN GERRARD would welcome him with open arms. Jamie Carragher would dance a jig of joy around the streets.

Liverpool fans, almost to a man, are united in their desire to bring him back home while Freddy Shepherd has offered to carry the little so-and-so down to Anfield himself in return for £9million.

The only man who remains unconvinced about Michael Owen is Rafa Benitez.

I'm not sure Parks - I think that England and Man U's styles are so different I'm not sure it buys anything much.

If its Hargreaves and Carrick in teh centre (which really ought to be properly tried out for England) then you'll have Gerrard and Cole on the wings and Rooney plus Owen or Crouch up front - both Carrick and Hargreaves will have very different jobs than with Scholes, Ronaldo and Giggs in front of them.

I don'e think it'll do any harm (at least he'll have CL football next year, hee hee!) but I don't think it will have a big impact on England.

    Fair enough.

Like you say it may not work but hopefully it will be tried, as long as it's working well first at United.

I wonder what will work better, Gerrard and Lampard or Carrick and Hargreaves?

What a bizarre question! Carrick and Hargreaves, obviously.

Hargreaves has the first central midfield spot.
To partner him you then choose Carrick, or one of Gerrard and Lampard.

If Carrick and Hargreaves play well together for united, then England could have a central midfield partnership that plays together every week at the highest level, Italy have that (albeit a superior version) and they won the World cup. I have always believed that international teams can never be that good because the players, dont play with each other often in competitve games.

The imbalance in midfield has been our big downfall over the past 3 years, with a balanced Central midfield with players that understand each others game, the rest of our good players; Gerrard, Rooney, Cole etc, would be able to play to there potential.

    --------------------Carrick---------------Hargreaves-----------------------

    Gerrard---------------------Rooney---------------------------------Cole

    --------------------------------Owen-------------------------------------------

Also Foster, Ferdinand, Carrick, Hargreaves, Neville and Rooney all playing for the same team in big CL games, can only be good for the national team.
