Oh, nothing is better than beating Schalke, apart from beating the Lederhosen and the HSV of course, and I'm pretty optimistic: I've read today on WOL Naldo may be fit again until friday... Frings ist täglich in der Wäschekammer
    http://www.sportbild.de/de/nncs/sportbild/2006/08/21/4171700000.html

    Interesting. Smile

If Naldo is fit on Friday, our chances to beat them will improve quite a bit indeed. That's great news! Smile

I agree, after HSV and Bayern, beating Schalke is the most fun. I will never forget how that Arschgeige Assauer used his good contacts in Bremen to get our players for cheap. Evil or Very Mad

Frings optimistic and confident as always, really like his attitude. He is always honest, and just speaking the truth. Guess that's why fans from other teams, especially HSV, love to hate him. Very Happy

Thanks for the link, this part especially is great, and so damn true...

Denn Frings beschreibt den Unterschied zwischen den Bayern und Werder so: »Bei den Bremern gibst du eine Grillparty – und alle Spielerkollegen kommen. Bei den Bayern kommen nur zwei, drei.«

    Very Happy

Hey juligen, cheers for that. Ale

You are Brazilian by the looks of it, nice to read that you guys still seem to rate him so highly. I agree, if he continues to improve, and I'm very sure that he will in Bremen (we have a great coach), he'll definitely be an excellent alternative for the OM position in the Selecao.

He is a true world class talent IMHO, just awesome to watch, but very efficient at the same time, that makes him so valuable for us. He is no show off, everything he does on the pitch makes sense, he is a team player.

Well maybe if he was played in the correct position, instead of behind two un-moveable static objects like Ronaldo and Adriano, he would be able to play better. Brazil played a midfield of two creative guys and two average "normal" midfielders, how can you expect to gain possession? Ronaldinho and Kaká had to spend most of the time running around trying to win possession or passing the ball back because Ronaldo and Adriano just stood still.

(don't want to sound too aggressive but blaiming Ronaldinho is stupid.. blame the cuadrado mágico or whatever that insane tactic is called)

i also think that Ronaldinho was not in his natural position, BUT in five years following him in our national team the only GREAT exhibition that i remember was in 2002 against England

THATS TOO LITLLE,compared with his talent, its unforgivable

even the fatty plays better for our national team (BTW did you guys know that Ronaldo arrived a little bit fatter to Real trainings silent , i am just fed up with the divas, give me the boys)

and look that i wanst in the group that got shock it when france kick our ass!

    @juligen21

I think that the tactics are really to blame, there is just not enough running on the team. Too many players are roaming around, not moving for the team, but rather just poaching.

I think that if you could institute something similar to Barcelona (Very Happy), where the 3 front players are extremely mobile, interchanging positions, and the rest try to cover their movements, then Brazil will again be unbeatable.. (just look at the Argentines Wink)

But I will stop know so I don't ruin the Werder thread..sorry Blutgraetsche

juligen, you are right, I am a Werder fan for ages, I live here in Bremen all my life. Werder is part of our identity here, we are proud of achieving more than our competitiors with less money. And we are proud of the football we are playing under our current coach Thomas Schaaf (7 years now), very entertaining, yet efficient and successful attacking football.
We are slowly but surely trying to become a true top club in Europe, but we always keep our feet to the ground.

I'm a 'huge fan', yes, still I try to be realistic, although I admit that get carried away sometimes, just like every fan I guess. Smile

Guess what the colors of FC Groningen are.... ok

I like watching Werder, still no fan....but I'm open for conversion.

I have however given up my resistance in *not* rating Klose (in fact I did that after Germany - Sweden, I thought he was awesome in that match) Yikes

Last year I tuned in to Sportschau to watch the adventures of HSV, but this year it might become too painful to watch them (and I honoustly think VDV will leave in the january window)....look at my predictions, I picked them *before* they were the new sensation : this year I'm supporting Nurnberg Smile

Hehe, I see. Glad that you have changed your mind about Klose. That's actually how it should be, players should convince doubters with their performances, nothing else.

The match against Osasuna tomorrow will be of utmost importance for the future of HSV. HSV simply has to win tomorrow, otherwise I can see VDV and other class players leaving next season, while it will be much harder for the club to sign quality players in the next few days.

I think that Nürnberg have a good chance to be the surprise of the season, I agree with you. I rate them and Leverkusen higher than most so called "favourites" to be honest, HSV included (for now, depends on who they sign in the next few days).

    @ bluegratsch

Please, tell me more about Naldo, I don´t know very much about him.

Diego + THE MONSTER combination will be bombastic. Last saturday the TV showed Bremen vs Leverkusen. Unfortunatelly I couldn´t watch it, but I watched the highlights and Diego was very impressive again. He almost scored a wonderful bicycle kick. I would like to see Bremen winning the Bundesliga this season (even thought my parents traveled to Munich a few weeks ago and brought me dozens of Bayern stuff! Smile )

Naldo is a great talent. When joined us, you could already see his talent, see how often he won his tackles, his strenght in the air etc. What he lacked was composure and tactical discipline. In the last year, he dramatically improved, becoming the first choice for the central defence. It was just nice to see how this talented youngster gained confidence with every good match he played for us. Now we have signed Mertesacker, who was one of the best central defenders at the WC, and expect him and Naldo to become a formidable partnership in the central defence. Seriously sheva, give him a couple of years at Werder, and Naldo will be a great defender, he already is better than most Brazilian defenders in the Bundesliga, with Lucio and Bordon still having the edge.

Pictures of that bicycle kick were all over the media here. Man, that just deserved a goal, just beautiful.
The hype is already immense, making our staff worried, knowing that Diego is so young still. The press keeps raving about him, he already is a star of the league. But I'm glad that he is such a down-to-earth guy, a real team player and no diva, so I'm not really worried that the hype might affect him negatively.

Klose and Diego work very well together as an attacking partnership, it's almost like they have been playing together for years. That's the most amazing part. Everyone, me included, expected Diego to need time to integrate, to get used to a different league, different country etc. But he shined for us from the beginning, exceeding all expectations.

P.S.: Good to know that you will support Bremen this season. I obviously wouldn't mind us winning the league either... Wink

"And we are proud of the football we are playing under our current coach Thomas Schaaf (7 years now), very entertaining, yet efficient and successful attacking football."

blutgraetsche, its good to hear that because, here in brazil our media gives the impression that only brazilians care about playing entertaining football, and WE know thats not true, so i hope the germans enjoy diego's football Wink

Our coach Thomas Schaaf has a very attacking football philosophy, although he was a defender himself (and a Werder legend I might add) back in the days. But we don't play attacking football for the sake of being entertaining, that's just a (intended) byproduct. We attack to win, we try to be efficient at the same time, and we usually are.

When Diego joined us this summer, he actually said in an interview that this was one of the reasons for him to move to us - our own 'special' style of free-flowing, pacy attacking football. He believed that this suits him best, and as can be seen now, he was right. Smile

Do you think there is any chance of Daniel Jensen and Zidan getting decent playing time this season?

Daniel Jensen can be quite good and Zidan has to be one of the best dribblers in the world.

Daniel Jensen always gets a lot of playing time, he played in the last two Bundesliga matches, for example, scored one beautiful goal. Last season, he often was in the starting lineup, and I expect him to start quite a lot of times for us this season as well.
You can't really count Jensen, Zidan, Owomoyela, Schulz and now Almeida as 'subs', they have the same chance to be in the starting lineup as the players in the first XI I posted earlier. It depends on form, and on the team we play against.

Zidan was excellent in the pre season matches, and definitely would have been a starter for us if he didn't get injured just a few days before the Bundesliga started. He is fit now, and I expect him to play soon.

I agree, Zidan has an awesome technique, brilliant dribblings galore. But the best thing about him is that he has matured in Mainz (on a loan) under Jürgen Klopp, he is far more efficient now, less selfish and more of a team player. And his finishing has improved also. That's why I expect him to get much more playing time this season.

As you can see, we have different type of strikers for every situation. Zidan the dribbler, Klasnic the poacher, Almeida the physical striker and Klose the brilliant allrounder and definite starter (if not injured).

September in Helsinki gegen Finnland beginnt.

Yes. He moved to Real Murcia, and from there to us.

He was a nice player at Heerenveen.

    Young but showed promise.

The chairman of Heerenveen (Riemer van der Velde) and his wife (Annie) are cult heroes in Holland. Nobody knows how he does it, but Riemer has a knack for always finding good players for little money. The only one that got away was Zlatan : "loads of ability, rotten mentality and doesn't score enough goals" was their assessment when he was 17-18.....hmmm Wink
