    Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Werderaner!!! :-)))))))))

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get to see the game in the end last night as a result of a funeral commitment, which was obviously bitterly disappointing. But a big performance when it mattered from the boys all round it seems and now all the best for Catalonia in two weeks' time. I am furious as I realize that my office party clashes with it (who are the sport-indifferent freaks who organize these things?! not the funeral of course, I mean...), and I'm pretty sure there's no way I could slope off to a bar/TV screen that would be showing it, but I'll be right behind you...

Any idea of a decent highlights package I could find on the web for last night's game (obviously the more extended, the better? Or even a replay of the whole game? Wishful thinking I suppose...)? I will have similar problems for the next game...

Judging by the radio commentary, birthday boy Torsten was the huge man of the match by a country mile. Nice one. In diesem Sinne...

Thank you, Allez. Smile <Ale> I think Eurosport will show (almost) the complete match tonight at 23:00/24:00 GMT/CET. Alternatively you can watch a good report here via Real Player. It's from Swiss TV, so it's in Swiss-German, but I since your German is perfect it's surely no problem for you to understand (it's not worse than Bavarian Wink).

Thanks Chrissi, I'll try it out later (Schwyzertütsch always makes me smile, so that's OK). Couldn't locate anything longer than the 2-minute highlights package Pele posted on YouTube last night, and ZDF didn't seem to have anything either, but I was in a hurry... I don't have satellite, which presents difficulties when I can't get to somewhere showing a game on time.

Giving serious thought to not going to that Christmas party – the game at the Nou Camp is surely the biggest Kracher in European football this season so far, at least from my point of view... I'm sure many neutrals would agree with me. In a way a shame that one team has to go out, but needs must!

P.S. British radio talked of Frings as definite MOTM as I said, but your Kreiszeitung link gave both Wiese and Merte 1's (!) ahead of him – now that's surely "performance from the gods" level, isn't it? Great stuff...

Oh, I thought watching Eurosport would be no problem. Here in Germany you can watch it almost everywhere via cable or satelitte, but also via normal antenna. I have to admit I watched it even for the second time last night. The first time I was too nervous while watching to really enjoy it... Smile

In Germany pay tv station Premiere have all the CL rigths (for free tv also), so you won't find any reports about it on ZDF. But I've found 10 minutes of extended highlights on youtube in English language. It's also pretty good.

„Barcelona muss uns ernst nehmen“, sagte Werders Mittelfeldspieler Tim Borowski.

Well played on Wednesday night guys. You showed your attacking qualities in the first 30 minutes or so, where you could easily have scored 2 or 3 goals, and then showed your defensive qualities in the 2nd half, when we had you under siege.

Am pleased with the result in a way. We go through with the easiest of the 6 games still to come, and your destiny is in your own hands now.

I can't believe some of the chances our guys missed (in particular Ballack and Joe Cole, who both missed goals which were practically open). I don't think we played to lose, but you could see that, all the time it was only 1-0, we never seemed to have much urgency to equalise. Very strange free kick you got which led to the goal (not quite sure why the ref gave it but never mind Wink).

Good luck in Barca! Draw there please (so we win the group as outright winners Wink) Ale

    Schlaudraff schon bald Bremer?

Hmm, you're probably right, even though I think you really tried to get a draw in the end...or maybe we were just too tired to offer more resistance in the end.
Maybe we'll meet again later in the CL... What do you think about our chances if we would draw or win at Nou Camp? Stefan Effenberg said lately in an interview we would be among the favourites then as well... Biggrin

Maybe towards the end they tried to equalise, but if you look at the difference between the intensity we put in when we went 1-0 down against Barca, and the intensity we put in Wednesday night, I think it was very different. See that as a compliment though, because you were excellent in defence.

If you win or draw in the Nou Camp, maybe Mr Abramovich will invite all your players onto his private yachts for a few weeks (and then later sign them all for our "reserve" team Wink Whistle)

I think if Barca go out, it probably makes us favourites (even though I think we are the favourites now), and gives everyone else a much better chance. If you go into the knockout round knowing you were unbeaten against Barca, I think you'll be more than a match for anybody else.

I hope we meet again, I enjoyed watching both the matches (1st one live, 2nd one on TV).

Just saw the highlights of Bremen's match. Klose aka Klonaldinho was fantastic, you easily could have won it with 5 or 6 goals. ok

    To Schlaudraff:
Does Bremen really needs a new striker? You already have 4, from which Klose is seeded, 2 (Hunt, Almeida) who are on par and then Klasnic, who is lacking fitness but was outstanding last season.

With Schlaudraff Bremen has then 5, where one is seeded and 4 who are fighting for the last spot. Not even Bayern has 5 equivalent strikers. Don't you think it would create too much trouble in the team or are you planning to sell Klasnic?

Btw is Zidan still in Bremen or is he loaned? And I'm sure you have two or three good strikers in your youth team, who also want in the first team, haven't you?

Don't get me wrong, Schlaudraff is a very good player, but I doubt you need him? Or does it mean Klose will leave the club at the end of the season and the buy of Schlaudraff is a reaction to it?

Klose was awesome indeed, great show by him, not just the goals and the assist, but the tricks and work rate, which was top notch as usual.

But you hit the nail on the head with the second part of that sentence: We should have won 5:0 or 6:0, we wasted way too many excellent chances for my taste, especially Borowski wasted a few.

The most important aspect of that game was that we played brilliantly without Diego, too. Borowski replaced him very well, he was just not clinical enough. Ironically, that used to be one of his strenghts last season.

This shows that any player, no matter how important, can be replaced, because we have a well functioning system, and a team that has finally geled and is starting to gain momentum. I expect us to be even stronger in the second half of the season, after the winter break that is hopefully used wisely by our staff. Quite a few of our players are tired, due to the WC and the CL, even if it didn't look like it yesterday. They really need a break to regenerate.

If we want to win the championship, and I still believe that we will, despite the set backs in the last few weeks, we have to be stronger in the second half, because our rivals definitely will be. Bayern have been unlucky with injuries so far (not that we were lucky either though), and if Deisler stays injury free for a change (I really hope he does), he'll add the badly needed creativity to their midfield that could make the difference. With a fit Deisler, Bayern will be much more of a threat, that's for sure.

As far as the Schlaudraff transfer is concerned: You have to remember that Klose will probably leave us next season Ballmädchen. Klasnic and Zidane might leave us as well. This is actually a typical Klaus Allofs transfer: Buy the right players (and I believe that Schlaudraff would fit well into the Werder sytem, and could really flourish under Thomas Schaaf) at the right time, which means before you desperately need them, at the right price. An anticipatory transfer policy.

Should make for a brilliant match with a tonne of goals. Hopefully we will just edge you out 5-4 Wink

I really hope that we will have a true classic match, with both teams in form showing some great attacking football. That would be great indeed.

Disagree with the result though. Wink

True, true, but did you see that little trick he did against Bielefeld...looks like they're learning a bit from Diego... Very Happy

    Thanks chrissi. Ale

Klose had some great tricks last season as well, but hopefully, our players inspire and learn from each other, for the benefit of the team.

Oh, sorry. Yes, Boro did quite a few tricks as well. He reminded me more of Micoud in this role though, he really had a good match, wasted too many good chances though. He needs a goal to gain more confidence.

Btw. chrissi, who do you want to see playing against Hertha and especially Barca? Schulz or Womé? Jensen or Baumann? etc.

Hmm, difficult. I think if Baumi is fully fit again, it's no question at all, even though Jensen played pretty well against Bielefeld and also against Chelsea. With regard to Wome and Schulz I'm still undecided. Offensively Wome is really playing shit sometimes, but then again he also has his brilliant moments and defensively he's strong. Well, it's a pity for Schulz and Jensen, but I would prefer Baumi and Wome at the moment.
