Probably because Rafa's strengths in scouting are mainly in Spain, and now obviously because he works here, England.
Those have been the two leagues Rafa has made the vast majority of his signings from.

Was Benitez at Valencia when they loaned Reveillere? I remember that Valencia wanted to keep him, but he was to expensive in wages. He could be your answer for a backup RB. He did really well for Valencia.

So it appears the Torres deal is in the bag.
So who will we be targeting next? i believe Rafa will target a winger.
We are all aware of the names being banded around, i'd like to see a potential signing looking at being wrapped up in the next couple of weeks, so that we can bring all the new players in for pre-season and also this Asia tournament we are in.

Someone like Quaresma would be ideal, but I don't think we've been linked with him

Sure, I see what you're getting at. Well, hopefully he gets his chance at some point and goes on to establish himself as a great Liverpool player.
Failing that, I'm sure he'll do well elsewhere.
It's incumbent on Rafa to get the best out of him since he's got an inherent talent that just needs to be teased out a little bit more and perhaps integrated into an athletic package with a little tactical finesse *was trying to think of a word that begins with n that is a synonym of finesse...anybody?*
Nous ?
Thanks Hardrada, that's the word I was looking for. I guess it's not a synonym of finesse after all!
Nous - innate intelligence

Luis Garcia Signs For Atletico Madrid
The former Barcelona man returns to the Vicente Calderon for £3.4m - Fernando Torres, however, is yet to leave the club...
Luis Garcia was expected to return to Atletico Madrid as part of the deal bringing Fernando Torres to Anfield. It hasn't quite worked out that way.
While the latter has yet to sign on at Liverpool, Luis Garcia has returned to the Vicente Calderon after four years away from the Spanish capital.
Garcia departed the Vicente Calderon in favour of the Nou Camp in 2003 before heading to Liverpool a year later, where he rapidly established himself as a fans' favourite.
Now, despite this success, his agent reports that he's heading back to Atletico despite generally impressing during his time at Liverpool. A 5 million euro (GBP£3.4m) fee has been agreed between the clubs, and he's expected to be officially unveiled later today.
The attacker, who can play behind the strikers, out wide or as a forward, proved himself a valuable member of the Liverpool squad in his first two years at Anfield.
After scaling the Liverpool scoring charts with 13 goals in all competitions in his debut season, Luis picked up a Champions League winner's medal after that penalty shoot-out win over Milan, before continuing his good form with seven league goals in the following campaign.
However, Injury struck in the second half of the 2006-07 season, meaning he has only played 18 competitive matches in the last year. Seemingly, he was subsequently seen as surplus to requirements at the Reds.
With this transfer now fully completed, Liverpool are widely expected to bag Torres in the next couple of days. If the wages can be sorted, that is!

rafa must already have a replacement lined up
maybe all the benayoun talk is as a direct replacement and rafa has been planning to use garcia to help get torres all along
garcia will be sadly missed but won't have that great an impact on the squad

Torres is all about the creation.
I also expext A replacement for Garcia to sign this week, or a winger.

If you stick alves in that team at right back to overlap gerrard I think it would be good enough to win the league CT
we will be signing other midfielders though
with malouda seemingly off to chelsea the only real rumours that we are left with are benayoun, nakamura and simao
however deals could be being completed in silence (ala arsenal today) so it could be anyone. all we know is rafa has said they are working behind the scenes to bring in a number of players

nothing more
fortunately, Arsenal are even worse
you should qualify for the CL once again

Otto is maybe being a little harsh but the left side with Fabio Aurelio and Kewell is not exactly top class. And there is no bonafide goalscorer.

That wasn't my point...I was pointing out how you were saying "Torres is creative" as if he's so creative and so involved in the play that you can build the whole team around him and don't need anyone else.

indeed
and as I was saying repeatedly last CL season
the overall quality was mostly dreadful; ie UEFA Cup level
meanwhile, the UEFA Cup managed to maintain it's quality
therefore, Sevilla's win was as meaningful and prestigious as that of Milan
just pray, Luis, that THIS year the CL does not live up to its name; otherwise you are doomed

How did you manage to create that insinuation from that simple comment? I din't say we could build the team around him

Well it sounds like you were placing far too much hope in him to be the creative source in your team, and I was saying that won't happen.
Anyway, just a misunderstanding, forget it.
