Parker to West Ham? Empty Parker to West Ham?

Post by debaser Wed May 30, 2007 6:57 pm

    http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=469448&CPID=8&clid=21&lid=4161&title=Hammers+move+for+Parker

Sky Sports News understands West Ham have tabled an £8.5million bid for Newcastle captain Scott Parker.

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce is believed to be willing to let Parker move on as he looks to raise money for his own transfer plans.

West Ham chief Alan Curbishley is keen to sign Parker as he is a big fan of the England international from their time together at Charlton.

Parker, who is currently recovering from a hernia operation, endured a difficult season at Newcastle last term after coming in for some criticism from his own fans.

Curbishley is in the market for a new midfielder with Nigel Reo-Coker expected to move on after handing in a transfer request.

Newcastle are believed to be lining up a move for Manchester City star Joey Barton as a possible replacement for Parker should he leave St James' Park.

probably a good replacement for reo-coker. seems a little steep, but will probably be in vogue with other transfers this summer.

might be the start of a transfer cascade. barton to newcastle, reo-coker to villa, then the start of the all-important saga of where-will-gavin-mccann-go?

I don't think this would make sense for Newcastle. Parker has taken alot of unfair stick this season(probably because he's a cockney and he's got the armband, i don't know), and i'd be disappointed if Parker threw in the towel because of that. He's had a dodgy season mainly because he's been playing next to Butt who has been playing in DM, play Parker there and we'll see him back to his best. <Ale>

    Yeah...Carroll already gone...Konchesky,Mears,Pantsil,Cole,Dailly,Spector,Kepa Blanco,Reo-Coker all going...doubts over Etherington,Bowyer,Tevez and Ferdinand too...

@Kimbo...depends on what Allardyce thinks, if he wants to bring in other players he may want to sell him...

I did say he was supposed to be unhappy there. We'll see what happens anyway...

Then surely he would wait like any sane man would. The window isn't even open yet and most moves won't happen until August.

the window ain't open, but deals are starting to be done...perhaps he's got a couple of targets in mind and needs the money now to ensure he gets them before someone else jumps in.

anyway, by 'a while' i mean it could be months before the ownership is sorted i.e. beyond the transfer window. doubt he'll want to go into the new season without putting at least some of his own changes in the squad.

I'm not assuming anything, i'm saying it would make sense for him to want to keep him. I'm saying that nothing about the move would make sense from a Newcastle point of view, which is why i think it won't happen.

I don't see why Newcastle would sell Parker, but 8.5 million pounds is a lot of money from West Ham, and well over his valuation IMO.

We don't need the money though. And selling Parker to replace him with someone like Barton, wouldn't be very ambitious.

None of this makes any sense.

    good idea though

get rid of all the deadwood asap and it signals your intentions and also probably promotes a more professional culture around the club

if magnus von icelander and his backers have as deep pockets as they seem to then they may just turn west ham into a force

Still not convinced of Curbs though. I have doubts if he's the right man for a top 7 team, a big spending team and/or an atractive creative side.
I'm not sure he qualifies for any of those things.

Harsh, perhaps even too soon to say, but he flattered to decieve at Charlton and his unatractive footballing style is hardly the stuff of dreams (not starting Benayoun is not great omen of things to come).

EDIT: *idea* West Ham should get Co Adriaanse. Smile

Green, Gabbidon, Upson, Neill, Noble, Boa Morte, Benayoun, Harewood and Zamora ( plus a few others cos im sure not everyone else will leave ) is a very good base to add some high profile talent, i think they will be in the top 10 pushing for a UEFA spot next season.

Id be surprised if we sold Parker, and horrified if we brought in Barton. It reminds me of the Bowyer deal we should never have gone ahead with, except that Barton is potentially more disruptive, perhaps an even nastier player, and would cost money. I dont rate him as a player either, and for me Parker is more talented.

With Parker, I agree with Kimbo in that hes a defensive midfielder who will play very well when put in that position. On the other hand, I know my Dad, who has a season ticket, has said to me that Parker seems to have an uneasy relationship with the fans at some points - they have a tendency to get on his back and he reacts. I know I was at a match a year or two ago where he made a gesture to the crowd. That could influence his desire to move, though Id be surprised if it was a factor in Allardyce wanting him or not wanting him.

I think the key is the two managers - Allardyce was close to signing Barton for Bolton, and Parker had his best spell as a player (and attracted Chelsea) when playing for Curbishley at Charlton.
