However it is very likely the deal will be done by tomorrow, as we are expected to drop our interest in Barton and pursue other targets.

The Parker/Barton situation.
Newcastle won't finalise the Parker deal until they have signed Barton. Due to his agents comments about wanting to speak to us...Newcastle will not let Parker move (who has passed a medical and agreed terms) until their Barton deal goes through as they think we might get both.
However it is very likely the deal will be done by tomorrow, as we are expected to drop our interest in Barton and pursue other targets.

Smart move tbh. I don't know who the hell is doing this though, Fat Fred is laid up in hospital.

I will add that Newcastle are still likely to sign him no matter what anyway...so they are kicking up a fuss just incase Barton chose us.

West Ham might come in and throw 100k a week at him, you never know.

I'll take this in jest and buy you a pint Kimbo
Barton's comments today basically says a deal is done before he's even spoke to us anyway, so whoever is worrying is obviously getting their pants wet for no reason.
Someone now saying deal could be done tonight...

I hope so too...you are the only one with any interest in him at the moment. Apparently we'll compromise at £7m...
£6.5m profit...lovely

Everyone on the Newcastle boards seems to think it's a financial thing, Sam has had no money given to him because of the takeover and he can't afford Barton without the Parker money.

Someone said that too...but we won't give you the Parker money until you give him to us. So surely keeping hold of him would stop that.
I can't see any twists here...I think Parker will be announced as a West Ham player and Barton announced as Newcastle player very soon.

Re: The Parker/Barton situation.
I wonder why Newcastle always has to make a joke of itself. Barton is the last player the club should be looking at buying. Of all the terrible transfers we have made over the years, this would be the worst, and all the likes of Marcelino, Fumaca, Andy O'Brien, Stephane Guivarch, Mike Hooper, so on and so forth, have deserved to play for the club and still deserve to play for the club, and have been better representatives for it, than Barton does and would be. He almost blinded a teammate and beats up young fans. And for these things he shows no remorse, but criticises various other players whilst hyping himself up, before going and doing the same stuff over again.
Really, his signing would disgust me like no other. He isnt even a talented footballer. And if it goes through, Allardyce can feck off as far as Im concerned, we might as well crumble completely and start again with a bit of class and dignity.

Who do you think they should be trying to buy instead?

Fernandes, Duscher, perhaps have a cheeky look at Tiago of Lyon if you can throw enough money to turn his head.

I don't want Duscher, don't rate him, and Fernandes would be more a replacement for Parker. Barton is a replacement for Emre i think, hopefully.

No way on god's green earth is Barton a better CM or AM than Emre though.
