Nice post , I asked about Gourcuff in the Serie A thread but this is a better place what type of player is he and why cant he get a game for you regularly.

Ok. Gourcuff is young, and he can pass the ball very well.

However, he is slow, and he lacks composure. This is all too evident every time he plays. He isn't the youngster who has the requisite swagger to make an immediate impact. Apart from his game against AEK Athens last year, Gourcuff has been fairly average. Ancelotti is slowly trying to blood him in, but he either comes on for Seedorf or Ambrosini/Gattuso. To depose any of those players is hard.

He is still young, and he is not what everyone thought he was, at least I don't think so. In short, the times Gourcuff has come on he has looked slow and rusty. Even the staunchest Milan supporter would concede that.

    @Pirlo

The Buffon thing was denied by Galliani. He admitted they made an approach, but Juve wouldn't sell.

The Toni thing hasn't been denied, and it's a shame that we don't have him.

But didn't Berlusconi quite clearly admitted the Buffon thing?? His comments were very clear, didn't look like media mischief.

Selling Foggia in hindsight seems a bad mistake, but at the time it was reasonable business - he didn't want to stay, he wasn't getting chances and there were long term doubts over his application and professionalism, even at Cagliari he is still a child at times, plus we it hjelped sweeten our capture of Oddo in return for selling our share of the player to Lazio.

Now, well he seems a better alternative on current form to Gourcuff who i believe isn't playing because we have problems fitting him into the system positionally. Kaka adopts the central advanced playmaker role - he certainly isn't going to take his place, and where Kaka can really push up and play as a support striker, Gourcuff can't, however both players share a willingness to turn and run with the ball but whereas Kaka's decision making and distribution are excellent, from what i have seen of Gourcuff his decisions are poor although he attacks aggressively he has little understanding with the team and movement.

If we then say that Gourcuff would either play alongside Kaka in a 4-3-2-1, or drop to make a pair with Gattuso in the diamond then physically he isn't ready. He is very slight and easily taken off the ball in a physical match up with an opponent. Wheras a player like Seedorf has the physique to drop back and make a more robust and physical midfield support, Gourcuff lacks the stamina and strength to do so. Technically he is very good, his control is super, but we just need to work on his decisions, support and distribution. Maybe these attributes can be aided by more playing time but at the moment with the teams fortunes so bad we can't afford the luxury of a calculated risk. A loan move may benefit his development, but for the moment i can't see him breaking into the first team which is a shame because we heard only good things about his future.

No. He said that they were going to buy Buffon, and then Calciopoli hit. They tried again, but decided to stick with Dida.

I read an interview of Berlusconi where he admited that he vetoed a Buffon move THIS summer, coz he has faith in Dida. Galliani denied it after that, probably coz that put too much pressure on Dida.

Milan To Let Eight Players Leave In June

AC Milan will begin a squad revolution by allowing eight players to leave at the end of the season, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The first is the legendary Paolo Maldini, who will retire 23-and-a-half years after making his club debut way back in January of 1985.

Ronaldo will also move on as his contract runs out in the summer, and the Milan hierarchy are refusing to offer him a renewal due to the constant injury problems that have seen him play just once this season.

Rossoneri fans would be happy to see accident-prone goalkeeper Nelson Dida leave the club immediately, however the lack of a valid alternative will see him stay until June, when he will then be replaced, probably by Fiorentina’s Sebastien Frey.

A number of defensive veterans are also set to leave the club. The 37-year-old Cafu signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, however this will almost certainly be his final renewal.

Cafu’s Brazilian compatriot Serginho will turn 37 in June, and despite still demonstrating some blistering pace, he will leave after nine years at the club.

Fellow left back Giuseppe Favalli has a contract at San Siro until 2009, however he is now surplus to requirements and will probably see the final year of his deal paid up in full.

Croatian stopper Dario Simic, who is set for a loan move to Lazio in a few days, will be sold to a club that can offer him first team football.

Finally young French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, a player likened by some to a young Zinedine Zidane, has been told by Coach Carlo Ancelotti that he has no future with the Rossoneri.

Milan are being linked to some very talented names.

I think Mourinho's likely to want to try Serie A next, although he would probably only accept offers from Milan, Inter or Juve and I'm not sure if any of them would be likely to bring him in as head coach.

Drogba is a phenomenal player, who despite all his critics gets lots of assists as well as goals. Would be interesting to see Drogba v Ibrahimovic in a season long head to head battle.

There is a decent chance that Milan or Juve may change coaches in the summer... specially Milan, I just can't see Ancellotti surviving the summer chop, unless he wins the CL again.

Mourinho and Lippi will be the only real contenders. And maybe Van Basten for Milan.
