Hard to decide.

Our's is more creative, Chelsea's is more destructive.

Defensively: Chelsea

Offensively: Man Utd

I'd prefer to have Utd's for entertainment's sake.

Essien is a monster though and Cole, Robben and Ballack are also world class players. Mikel and Diarra are showing signs of going that way too

with Mak, Diaara, SWP, Kalou (and Lampard) as back up then they do.

Both have amazing strength and depth in their midfield it is a very close call but i now think U*d might have overtaken Chelsea in terms of midfield quality, especially when going forward. I dont think Chelsea make the most of their attacking mids, they could use Robben, Cole and SWP to much better effect but instead insist on playing 3 CM's at a time.

I'd go with Chelsea if we are talking straight CM because of Essien. The monster. Wide midfielders, i'd pick us.

He's light years better than Richardson.

It seems fair to say that most people agree that defensively Chelsea are the best, especially in terms on CM. But U*d are far more creative and attacking and they hold that advantage over Chelsea.


But overall who wins ? Prob U*d.

You've used Robben twice Tweedle.

Personally, I would rather watch Man Utd's midfield because they have some great attacking players and wonderful passes. I think that Chelsea have the better balance though. If both midfields came up against each other I would expect Chelsea's to get the better of the contest because they have such power and strength through the centre, but still have quality attacking players like Robben and Cole out wide. It's a close call, but I think Chelsea have a slightly stronger midfield.

Agree with all that.

If you put out both our midfield's against a middle level team, we'd probably create more, score more than Chelsea's.

However in a head to head, Chelsea's may find away of outplaying us or in other words, over powering us.

Hopefully Hargreaves will change that slightly though.

Based on rating them in order for each club and comparing.

That made no sense at all Roger.

Liverpool like Chelsea have a very strong and defensive CM but completly lack creativity. Arsenal on the other hand have a fair bit of flair and attacking mids but lack strong, hard defensive CMs.

I think, when you list players in this manner, it is obvious that we are considerably weaker than the other top 4 teams in terms of overall quality in the midfield area.
Compared to Liverpool, I think our quality is spread more evenly. Fabregas and Gilberto are good central midfielders, Rosicky and RVP (if he counts) are good attacking options, plus inevitably we have plenty of exciting young players like Denilson. Liverpool have a much stronger central quartet of Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard and Sissoko but lack quality out wide in my opinion.
Still, it is early in the transfer market, there is plenty of time for both teams to improve their weaknesses.
