But how could you even think they would buy Messi? Shocked
Messi is the least sellable member of Barcelona's squad - him, Iniesta, and Puyol (and maybe Xavi) are probably the only players that will not be sold for *any* sum of money.

60 million pounds and Iniesta is anybodys Razz Whistle

    It's euros, actually Razz

But like I just posted in the Barça thread, the board had already decided before the season ended (and definitely before Madrid's messing around) that he would be given a contract improvement (esp. to increase his clause) at some point this summer.

Vieira and Dacourt mey be past their prime, but they got coupla good seasons left in them.... both did decently well for Inter last season.... And Stankovic is actually a CM who is played on the left by Mancio. Jimenez is also a RW/CM back up.

What happened against Valencia was a freak occurance, with all 3 of our CMs injured... I doubt that will happen again... But yes, I would have been more comfortable if we had bought a strong young CM....

Like I said before the summer, the ideal mercato for us would ve been Messi, De Rossi, & Chivu. We have almost got one out of those Wink

But what Mancio seems to be going for are a lot of players who can play multiple positions.... and from that perspective we are well covered in all positions, and can support more than one tactical system or formation. I have grown to respect Mancio's moves in the transfer market, he has done brilliantly for us so far.

I'd say Vieira and Dacourt are past their prime.

Go look what happened against Valencia, they had no cover for in CM for these guys and ended up going out.

I believe they have 6 strikers for 2 positions, thats why buying Suazo made no sense.

They had Burdisso, Materazzi, Samuel, Cordoba and Rivas for CB who are all top defenders and would all probably be starting at any other Serie A team. Then they go and spend 10m on Chivu. Wheres the sense in that? Unless of course they play him at left back, but then they still wouldve been better off buying a specialist LB.

And what about RW? I thought they were going to buy Messi or Quaresma but instead they buy the unproven Jiminez. Looks like Zanetti will be having another busy year. He deserves more of a rest at his age.

The latest is that Inter has given Roma £9M and half of Andreolli... it will be sad to see young Andreolli go... I would ve rather sold Samuel!

Yeah but you have destroyed or hindered many Italian players' careers, so what's one more. Pathetic.

Inter, an Italian team, has 2 Italians of any note. Doh

    Chivu agent confirms Inter move
    Thursday 26 July, 2007
Cristian Chivu will join Inter tomorrow and won’t attend tonight’s celebrations marking Roma’s 80th anniversary, says his agent.

The defender is expected to be unveiled as a Nerazzurri signing on Friday and the confirmation comes from two different sources.

“Will today be the decisive day for Chivu? I don’t know, but I think so,” commented Inter President Massimo Moratti this morning.

It is reported the clubs finally agreed a £9m switch plus half of Under-21 international Marco Andreolli’s contract.

“Right now Chivu is in Rome with my brother and could be in Milan as early as tomorrow,” added agent Giovanni Becali on ‘Radio Spazio Aperto.’

“He wanted to be coached only by Roberto Mancini and that is what he will get. We’ve had an agreement with Inter for a long time.

“Chivu helped Roma by foregoing his last two or three pay cheques, which is nothing to be sniffed at,” continued Becali, one of two brothers who represent the former Ajax star.

Talks had irrevocably broken down last week, but resumed and a deal has seemingly been found.

“The negotiations were entirely ruled by the pride of Rosella Sensi and Moratti. It looked as if a miracle would be needed, but two such important clubs couldn’t fail to find a middle ground. It was not a problem of money.

“He will not be at the Roma celebrations this evening. He could well be in the city, but I doubt he’ll go to the Stadio Olimpico.”

The stadium will be packed with fans and old glories to mark the 80th anniversary of the club’s foundation.

Giallorossi chiefs were eager to sort Chivu’s future out before tonight so that he would not become the target of abuse from the supporters.

Among those attending will be almost the entire 1983 Scudetto winning squad, including Franco Tancredi, Paulo Roberto Falcao and Carlo Ancelotti.

Christian Wilhelmsson won’t be at the Olimpico, as he has just agreed a move to Bolton Wanderers.

How did we "destroy or hinder" Andreolli's career by giving him to Roma?? It will probably do him good, as he will get to play more often... my point was quite the opposite, we let half of Andreolli go cheap!

In recent years, Inter have spent a lot of money on youth development, and given a lot back to not just italian football, but a few other countries. Unfortunately Inter haven't been clever enuf to profit from it, and the laws haven't helped. But that hasn't stopped Moratti in investing into youth development, and I think thats a good thing... last 5 years, a lot of talent has come out of these academies... Potenza, Pasquale, Andreolli, Martins, Ribas, Ventola, Slavkovski, etc just to name a few.

Yeah but you have destroyed or hindered many Italian players' careers, so what's one more. Pathetic.

Inter, an Italian team, has 2 Italians of any note. Doh

I was also a strong believer that Rossi would leave, but yesterday Ferguson and today Gill both said he will stay.

Well, French medias say it comes from Marca. What happened is that Valencia failed to buy this dude for 25m euros, so they tried to get Kim Kallstrom, who's great b.t.w, but Lyon refused because we have already sold Malouda and Tiago. At first, Valencia tried 12m, then they included Morientes or Lyon asked to put Morientes in the balance. Actually this story doesn't make sense since they were different stories. Anyway, as I said this will not happen.

I am not 100% certain Rossi is staying, but with Smiths recent exploits in the far east, there is a good chance that he will stay Very Happy

    @Blue

Whatever happened to Ventola, I remember him scoring some very good goals and he was branded as the next big thing by many.

As a kid, he used to resemble a junior version of Vieri... so I guess all of us and the media went overboard with the praise.

Like any youngster at a big Italian club, he spent time on loan with small outfits... unfortunately he was one of those who did not prove his talent, even in Serie B - mostly coz he is so injury prone... actually a few years ago, he had a great season with Atalanta, and we thot he had arrived... he was immediately recalled at Inter, but got totally upstaged by Martins... he was sold, and rightly too, coz he never looked top material as a grownup... I think he even played for crystal palace a coupla years ago, but was injured the whole season!!

But the last 2 seasons at atalanta he has come good, also coz finally he has been injury free, scoring over 20 serie A goals... wish him the best.

Another of those prodigies who look so good at primavera, but can't manage the same impact for the seniors...

I remember getting really excited when he burst onto the scene (as Inter was my fave Italian team at the time) thinking he would be Inters Del Piero; a young Italian forward that could help win them the league.

I think I remember hearing about a Ventola playing for Palace, but I didnt think it was the former Inter youngster. Talk about falling from grace.

I guess like a lot of youngsters he peaked very early and didnt really improve, due to numerous reasons.

Ventola the new Del Piero? Whistle

Ventola is a frustrating player, he can be damn good when he wants to be but another very inconsistent player.

Ventola wasn't injured the whole time he was at Palace. I think he managed about 5 games or so and in the one I saw he did very well

    @Tweeds

Not in terms of football style, but as in the symbolic sense. When he first emerged from the Inter youth team, into the first team he was scoring spectacular goals and he looked like the next Italian wonderkid.

Obviously me and everyone else were completely wrong about him. We never thought he would be the Italian Danny Caddermatre.

Not DP, Ventola's playing style resembled Vieri. Rosina resembles DP in the way he plays, he could very well become as good.

But yeah, Ventola was a disappointment... not as big as Pirlo (whom we all thot would become the next Baggio!!), but at least pirlo found a new role.... ventola is still struggling to deliver his initial promise.

But Inter academy has so many talented young strikers now, some of them will become big... my money is on Ribas (now at Livorno), Acquafresca (now at Cagliari), and Slavkovski.

Acquafresca & Giovinco (juve's loan to empoli) are the future, the new batch of azzurrini superstars, remember these names!!

Laughing I was not talking about the current batch of azzurrini, players like Pazzini, Rosina, Pelle, Rossi, Palladino, Pozzi, Lupoli, etc. These guys have graduated, and now have to prove themselves in the senior game. I am sure 2-3 of them will become superstars.

I was talking about the next batch, Aquafresca & Giovinco are the new Azzurrini prodigies.

Julio Baptista has rejected a move to Villarreal, as Milan are linked with a bid for the Real Madrid attacker.

Baptista's agents, Juan Figger and Herminto Menendez, have ruled out their client joining Villarreal, with the Brazilian only interested in playing for a UEFA Champions League club.

"Julio only desires a club that plays in the Champions League," they are quoted in the Spanish press.

Baptista spent last season on loan at Arsenal but The Gunners have opted against signing the former Sevilla man from Real.

Real coach Bernd Schuster has welcomed Baptista into his squad, but the Liga champions could sell if the right offer, believed to be in the region of €20million (£13.4million), arrives.

Newcastle and Villarreal were rumoured to be chasing the 25-year-old, however both clubs appear to be out of the running.

Milan are believed to have tabled a €17million (£11.4million) offer for Baptista but Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic is set to demand more, although he is thought to be willing to talk.

Baptista will return to Madrid this weekend following a holiday after the Copa America and will hold a meeting with Mijatovic to discuss his future.

He would be open to a move to Milan, with his agents adding: "Milan is a big club."
