Why do people only think of the short term?

Managers like Fergie are always building for the future and thinking of the long term benifits of the club. When one day he leaves, he will leave United in the best possible shape for the next manager to take over.

Capello only takes over the clubs for the short term. He buys experienced players for big money to win titles with immediate return. Look at the state Capello left Roma in when he left, hugely in debt. Look at the state he left Juve in, even if they would not been relegated the average of that team must of been 30+.

Look at some of his buys for Real Madrid -

    Cannavaro - 32/33
    Emerson -30/31
    Van Nistelrooy - 29/30

How will they help Madrid in say 2 years after Capello is gone.

Capello's work for a team is amazing, however for a club I'd take Ferguson any day.

Capello also bought players like Higuian and Gago though - and Metzelder more recently - so its not as though he's made Madrid a time bomb

In spending power, compared to the rest of the league, they were similar.

Mourinho's Chelsea which won the league had more money to spend than anyone else.... In Itlay at that time, there were at least 4 clubs with better spending power than Roma, and better teams on paper than Roma. So comparatively, they were like Newcastle is in EPL - 5th or 6th in spending power...

Its pointless to compare players of that Roma and this newcastle, coz they were playing in different leagues at different times... Coz what I was implying is that for Roma to have won that scudetto, is similar to Newcastle winning this EPL (not that scudetto).

Newcastle could not go out and sign Henry (the equivalent of Batistuta) they dont have a Rooney (the equivalent of Totti) they dont have a world class right back like Cafu and have a Brazilian captain in midfield and a defender who was on the cusp of being world class. I would say that Roma winning the league was comparable to when Chelsea won the prem for the first time.

That comparison is hugely off target though bluey.

that season Roma were spending as much if not more than the other Serie A clubs - Newcastle don't spend anywhere near that of the op EPL clubs, except Arsenal whose spending is about level.

I think all the Italians were pretty rich at the time, the likes of Lazio could afford to waste £32m on Mendieta.

It was a very good achievement but any team that had the legendary Batistuta (one of the greatest strikers of our time) were always going to have a chance.

Wrong again. That season Roma only bought Batigol - its legendary, Capello had only asked the board for a top striker. It was no where near the money spent by say Inter to assemble their squad (Ronaldo, Baggio, Vieri, Zamarano, & Recoba were our strikers in 2000!!).

You already know what I think about this focus on youth in some clubs in england... it is so fucking over rated!!

Nah, thats just the difference between the way a top italian club thinks and some top english clubs think... it Italy, experience is given priority... Capello's teams have not been any older than what you find at Milan or Inter today.

In 2 years time, a new coach will come in and would want to change a lot of personnel anyways... thats how it works in Italy and Spain. Always has.

No $h!t, Inter thorw money down the toilet Wink

the most Newcastle have ever spent on a player was the £17m on owen though + Newcastle generally aren't as big a club as Roma nor are they located in a city that would attract the high calibre players - they have to rely on attracting players on the next rung down.

I've already said that Capello's achievements are the best in Europe though, but honesty, in the present market, Newcastle haven't spent anythig like the amounts that certain other EPL clubs have

Again, you start comparing in absolute terms, I wass comparing in relative terms...

And they don't have to be exact, thats not the point... its an analogy, they were in similar relative strength.

from what i know the only people who consider roma a big club is the romans and they are backed by gazzetta or another paper like this. roma has won 3 titles in 50 or more years.and has never gone past the quaters in cl. also i doubt very much SAF could have taken this Real side to the league title. i cant remember at any time since i have seen such pressure on a coach where everybody was after him people already calling him to fail before he entered madrid! it was reported that he was close to leaving for the first time in history and that says something when it is capello.

and anybody that thinks Real had the foundation to last season is crazy. we could have played for the league title a 100 times and lost each one. as i said before capello has dont much offensively and defensivly but he has done alot in terms of spirit. i think that we can finally get a thight defence next year with metzelda-cannavaro and carlos gone. so if capello still cant get it right next season defensively then he would have been an dissapointed to his own standards.

The last two nails in the coffin for Barca were:
    1) Dinho getting red - even though he was only suspended for one game.
    2) barca relinquishing last week's 2-1 lead in the last minute of the game.

am watching a re run of the madrid v majorca match, still can't believe real ended up winning the match: 15 minutes into the second half, Real are a goal down, playing Cr@p and have been very fortunate not to concede another goal

im sorry but this is never true in a league. also i gues i could say the same about barcas last two league titles. there was no competition from the big teams like us/valencia/depor. depor were nowhere and valencia were turning into ranieris italian playground. but barcelona still did the job and im not going to say they didnt get what they deserved because they were the only ones playing determination and spirit so they of course deserved it.

+ the game against Betis, where they had one shot on goal. All the while 5 players had their back turns..

Tbh, it would be the better option.

Changing the coach would not be benefical to the team, changing the tactian and president so frequently has unsettled the club as a whole.

Also Schuster is untested at the highest level; Fighting for the title and CL football.

Capello isn't too bad i suppose, at times it's been awful but he got us the leauge title, and thank you sir Ale

Also he can build a team, which Real lack, and there are various aspects that need to be improved within Real.

Someone on this thread last night commented about Cannavaro apparently running around with the fascist Italian flag at the Bernabeu. Just wondered if there were any comments made in the Italian media about this and if there are any implicartions, he being the Azzuri skipper and also (I assume) a reasonaly respected player in Italy. Also how big a clanger is this really? - like, say, a German player running with a swatiska flag??

Just curious as to how these things are perceived locally.

Canna apologized for it. He said when he was given the flag, he just saw the tricolore, and started running around with it. He said he is not a fascist, and he apologized.

It was probably thrown to him by the ultras.

Cheers. So what's the difference between a fascist flag and an ordinary flag?
