There is nothing wrong with van der Sar ! Evil or Very Mad

Don't get me wrong, Van Der Sar has been one of the best goalies of the last 20 years, no doubt about that. But he simply cannot be compared to Casillas at this stage. Van Der Sar makes too many mistakes nowadays and not enough great saves like he used to. This is understandable given his age. I think that the lack of great goalies in the Premiership makes Van Der Sar seem better to a lot of English people than he actually is at the moment.

He has one more international tournament in him , lets just hope for his sake he gives one more 'hurrah'.

I would be happy for him if he did, but with Van Basten as coach I don't see Holland going very far, though hopefully that won't be the case.

offtopic: van Basten knows his mistakes and solutions are not hard to solve , if hes not in charge in 2008 things could be more easy

    @ Rez

van der Sar did well in the first half of last season , the mistakes which were highlighted (v Roma away , Pompey away) did not damage the team in the long term , don't forget his match winning saves against Liverpool at Anfield from Crouch and Fulham away , plus that pen save against City.

Foster will challenge him for the no1 spot no doubt.

And besides, it's not like Casillas is Cr@p at crosses or anything. That used to be a weakness but he's improved a lot in this area in the last 3 seasons.

Cech commands the areas as well as Buffon + makes better reflex saves than Buffon.

I still think Gigi is the best, then Cech & Casillas.

The Italian, for me, has all the commanding presence of Cech, and for a big man, his reflexes are comparable to that of a smaller keeper like Casillas or a peak Barthez... his side to side movement is absolutely incredible...

Plus He had the pressure of that frankly insane price tag being put on him at a young age, and he responded brilliantly.

One thing about Cech - he absolutely sucks when it comes to saving penalites... Buffon & Casillas are more than decent at this ok

You always do it waft - you insult someone personally. Usually its their knowledge of football or their intelligence.

It doesn't work well on a football forum - after all, its not as though people will have a poor knowledge of football - I have been watching it pretty much non-stop for about 20 years y'know Rolling Eyes

Its called difference of opinion - nothing to do whatsoever with a lack of football knowledge

They are better than him at saving penalties, but he pulls of some saves that Casillas and Buffon wouldn't get to, simply because they're not as tall as him.

How many of these amazing saves does Petr do a game? The odd one?

Maybe people shouldn't develop opinions about themselves from a game?

If what I said upset you (questioning your football knowledge), why did you then say exactly the same about me, if this is such a harmful thing?

If you took it as a personal insult, I think you are mistaken, but I apologise nonetheless.

Like I said, you cannot use poor defences as an argument to say that Casillas is better than Cech. If Casillas played behind the Chelsea defence I think he'd concede more than Cech, simply because he is $h!t at dealing with crosses (one of Cech's strong points). You see a lot more crosses in the EPL than you do La Liga.

To be fair i think Casillas would cut it in the EPL and be just as successful if not more than Cech.

Only thing is that Cech can pull of some saves do his bigger size, such as that header on 3.20(?).

Don't forget Casillas also plays in Europe and for the past 8 season's he's come up against many world class strikers, so Crouch is nothing Wink

Haha. The "youtube video" defense. I could show you plenty of Youtube videos with much more impressive saves by Casillas. The first 5 saves of that video Casillas could do in his sleep. They even rave about saves where the ball was going straight at him Laugh The Premiership really needs some better goalies.

As a matter of fact, go watch some footage of the 2002 CL final, where in 10 minutes Casillas made 3 world class saves. This was when he was only 20, and had just come on for an inured Cesar. I'd like to see Cech do anything like that.

His reflexes are tremendous (maybe not quite as sharp as Casillas, but it helps him pull of some tremendous saves).

I'm talking about teams putting ball after ball into the box via an aerial route to the likes of Crouch though. In Spain, football is predominantly played on the floor.

The Premiership is probably the strongest league around when it comes to goalkeepers.

Cech is considered by many to be the best goalkeeper around.

Reina would be 1st choice if he were almost any other nationality.

VDS may not be as good as he was, but would still walk into the vast majority of La Liga teams.

Lehmann - See VDS. Also disposed Kahn as Germany's no.1

Given is also a very good goalkeeper, as is Jussi and Brad Friedel.

Cudicini is probably the best no.2 goalkeeper in Europe (although I won't say he definitely is because there may be another keeper I'm unaware of).
