Buffon rallying troops! Empty Buffon rallying troops!

Post by bluenine Sun Jun 17, 2007 1:07 pm

Buffon worries me... he has the personality, quality and stature to be a great leader and inspire his troops into doing something special. If someone can buy Buffon away from Juve, they will be finished for 2-3 years... but with Buffon there, and Lippi joining in a few months, they could shock everyone.

    Buffon's sweetest Scudetto
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gianluigi Buffon says he opted to stay with Juventus so he could prove their Scudetto credentials after Calciopoli. "Some things are priceless." I have this great feeling that the group has the potential to win more. I have the good fortune to be with some special teammates and imagined the taste of the next Scudetto,” smiled the goalkeeper.

“It’s more or less an advertising slogan – some things are just priceless. It was a delicious feeling.” Buffon decided to remain in Turin even after their demotion to Serie B and, now that they are back in the top flight, he has more ambitions ahead of him. “We are proud that we dominated Serie B. It was an inevitable purgatory, as it was the only way to make Juve likeable again in the eyes of the public. Now I am seeing a strong and competitive squad being forged.” The World Cup winner had been on the verge of walking out, admitting he was “70 per cent” sure he was leaving this summer before the arrival of Claudio Ranieri changed his mind.

Buffon had been heavily linked with Inter and Milan, but insists the reason for his turnaround was not because these sides refused to pay his considerable price-tag. “If I had wanted to go, then I would have. It’s true there was a contract, but what sense would there have been in keeping an unhappy Buffon?” David Trezeguet, Mauro Camoranesi and Federico Balzaretti are on their way out and the goalkeeper does not miss them.

“I would love for Ale Del Piero and Pavel Nedved to play like they have done in these past few seasons. We would fear nobody. I love football too much and have the intelligence to understand I am a very lucky guy. I never forget it. That is something a lot of players should reflect on.”Some transfers have already been secured and others are just in the newspapers. Buffon gave his verdict on the Bianconeri new boys.

“Domenico Criscito is the best young defender in Italy. I hope he can become like my friend Canna (Fabio Cannavaro, ndr). “Another lad who convinces me is Claudio Marchisio, who with the right space will be in the Nazionale within two years. Perhaps nobody realised we had so many talented young players at Juve, but the season in Serie B showed what a treasure we’ve got.

“I spoke to my friends in Zaragoza about Gabriel Milito and they told me he is a phenomenon. To tell the truth I also like his brother, Diego. “I know Tiago well. He plays for Lyon and therefore is accustomed to the top level. He is a real protagonist and would bring experience. “Jan Klaas Huntelaar scores a lot of goals, but I don’t know much about him. He is young and that is an advantage.”

    Buffon: Why I chose Juve
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gianluigi Buffon has explained why he chose to remain at Juventus. “This is an exciting project with men I respect.”

The goalkeeper had been ready to walk out after helping them to promotion from Serie B, but following months of speculation has put pen to paper on a contract extension until 2012. “At the end of the day I decided to stay with Juve because I think the project outlined by the club can be an exciting one,” said the World Cup winner. “The people who support it are men that I respect and admire on all levels, especially as human beings.”

One of the key changes to convince Buffon was the arrival of new Coach Claudio Ranieri after a series of disagreements with Didier Deschamps. “A month ago I had practically decided to leave, but looking over it again I thought it was right to stay on, as there would be no sense in going elsewhere,” he told Sky Italia television. “This desire to top the table again with Juve, winning back the leadership in Italy and Europe strengthened my motivation.”

With Jonathan Zebina also renewing his contract and others expected to follow, the Bianconeri are continuing their challenge to prove themselves post-Calciopoli. “Before making my choice I wanted to test the water with people like David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero, Pavel Nedved and Mauro Camoranesi to see if they felt the same way.

“I received more than positive responses from everyone. I think there can be nothing better than dreaming and hoping to win with this squad.” Buffon was hailed by the fans during a special training session in the middle of Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Turin this morning. The event on artificial turf was done for charity.

Strange, I've actually lost a lot of respect for Buffon personally recently (the last year), more than willing to take the plaudits for his loyalty sticking with Juve (and a wage as good as he'd find anywhere), whilst constantly releasing unsettling statements to the press about leaving, wanting champions league football, the squad, targets and whatnot. Effectively, never shutting up. Most great leaders and even great pros know when and when not to speak, he is certainly lacking this quality.

Best goalkeeper in the word? Undoubtedly. Great leader? Not at all.

    Please sell him!! Wink

Nah, from what I hear, he has been trying to convince Treze and Camoranesi not to leave... I think since he decided to stay, he has been playing the role of a leader... your next captain, my friend, undoubtedly!!

Its a Roman derby for his signature, from what I hear... apart from some terrifying rumours about Inter's interest...

My problem is that Inter might end up with too many "negative" personalities!

People with IDEAL personality are like Zanetti, Maldini, Chivu, etc... those are the kind of players any club would love to have... even Kaka, Crespo, Del Piero, etc are very positive personalities.

Inter already has a few "negative" personalities:

Red card prone: Matrix, Ibra, Vieira.
Bad attitude/ego issues: Ibra, "Partiano" Imperatore.

Camoranesi, like Ibra, will probably make both the lists!! While a few players like these are manageable (and I hope Inter retains all these, except maybe Adriano), too many players like these would de-stablise the club. Thats why I would like to avoid Cassano, Camoranesi, etc

Camo is a good winger...but yes I would agree that he is not a positive personality especially with all this leaving talk that his agent has been sounding off ever since Juve's demotion. But I still believe that he is very good in his role & Juve should try their best to keep him for at least another season.

Agreed, Camoranesi is a talented winger and Juve should try and keep hold of him. Its a common argument that he does more harm than good with all his talk of leaving but I personally would say keep him and besides, can you really blame an international footballer for saying "I don't want to be playing in Serie B" ?
