Well you got lucky due to our injury Crisis...
Well done though..
Although both teams suffered setbacks, ours with a new manager (Ridiculous pressure on Jol at the start) and complacency after the Carling Cup. Yours with the injury crisis. The league (european positions) was their for the taking...
Next season, will be the one (without the added hype of top 4 finishes at the start)...We should do well...

Both are largely average clubs who think they're better than they are, I think West Ham will finish 9th next season with Spurs 8th maybe 7th

I'd rather hope we will win the league and fail then hope we'll finish ahead of West Ham and fail

don't be such a fucking moron. You get $h!t from Newcastle fans, Man Utd fans, Chelsea fans and Arsenal fans...so you then decide to be a little vicious c**t and have a dig at us and Tottenham.
@Juande...yeah next season should be good. Both of us will spend more, both should have players back from injury and fully fit sides. I expect decent seasons from both.
@TS...I would indeed for two reasons
1)You are in the UEFA Cup (a trophy too)
2)Your games were very entertaining due to the high level of goals scored and conceded.
I'm still happy to finish in the top half and above you, considering the inury problems we'e had.

You lot hoping to win the League and us hoping to break the Top 4 is similer. Both seemingly a very hard task....(Although atleast we have come close to breaking into the Top 4)....
I wasn't hoping at the start of the season that we will finish above West Ham. More like a top 5 finish...

It wasn't about you having us to finish 9th...it was your dig about us being average clubs who think we are better than what we are. The 3 teams who finished 10th, 11th and 12th can all do better with fully fit sides, and have probably underachieved this season.

here's a lovely stat: in the past 10 years, 6th place in the league has given direct European qualification all but 4 times. who finished 6th each of these times? Take a guess

We finished 5th in 99/00 and had to go through the Intertoto cup. We also finished 3rd in 85/86 and would have been in the, what is now the Champions League...had Liverpool fans behaved themselves.

To be honest, I was hoping in the end that we could somehow manage to finish above you lot. One of my mate, who's a die-hard West Ham fan, been giving the large today
We both had average seasons, for various reasons...But theres always some pride/banter to finish above your london rivals. Glory and Rivalry for true fans goes hand in hand...

Exactly...we have the bragging rights for that...while you won the Carling Cup. Both of us have the potential to do so much better though. Blackburn, Villa, Man City and Portsmouth are not that really in a different category to us two and Newcastle who finished 10th, 11th and 12th. If these teams had finished in a different order...no one would be surprised.

Maybe I'm wrong then...all I know is we were stopped qualifying for (maybe the UEFA Cup) which back then was a very big trophy. The reason being...Liverpool had got all English teams banned for 5 years.

No question that this season was truly hard to break into Europe. Many teams have improved their squad, alot of money been spent. We've spent alot, but it was our inabilty to be consistent was the key. We've actually played better performance wise against the big 4, but still languished in mid-table. I think the key was, the likes of Villa, Everton etc, pushed the bar up in terms of consistancy, whilst we were still finding our feet, due to enourmous pressure at the start for Jol...

Aye, fucked over Everton as well, that ban...they would've had a great chance of winning European Cup in the late 80sWest Ham e Sampdoria wrote:debaser wrote:Is that right? European Cup was only for Champions and holders until the 90s wasn't it?

You lot going to have the cash to even make it to the finish?
As for us, we've destroyed all the progress made in the Jol/Arnesen era. We have to start again. 14th-17th is all we can hope for.

200 million spent and your squad is no better than it was two years ago.
Commoli really fucked you up, didn't he? I know you made a lot back through selling players but the same problem that were there back then are still there now - no athletic DM, no reliable centrehalves, not enough fullbacks, far too many central midfielders, no proper strike partnership...

Oh, you can't believe paper bollocks all the time. We had all this shit already, then we started picking up results and everyone shut up. Now the transfer window is open...they start about us having no money, all our players for sale...blah blah. I couldn't give a shit what the papers are saying...

Wasn't it your own chairman (or someone from the board) who hinted that the club would listen to offers for any player? Add in the fact that your owner has been severely hit by the financial crisis in Iceland, and I don't think the papers are too far out with their reports.

Did you read the rest of it? OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR PLAYERS DEPENDING ON THEIR VALUE AND IMPORTANCE TO THE SQUAD, AS WELL AS THEIR HAPPINESS AND IF ZOLA WANTS TO KEEP THEM!
People seem to miss out this bit, and so do the papers...
