Apparently Liverpool is not the first football club that this greedy bastard has mismanaged. A few years ago he bought into Corinthians and lost a lot of money. He then bailed out. He is all about making money and has proved he knows f@ck all about any sport. Screwed up the Texas Rangers as well in baseball. Does anyone know about the South American fiasco and also how Liverpool's former board didn't know what kind of man they were doing business with?

Why do you think they didn't know that ?
I think they got paid handsomely to ignore it : business as usual

@ Axe: And Gillette too? Did he know and ignore it too. Apparently the collapse of the Argenitean economy was part of the reason that money was lost in South America. I think it was a consortium of sorts, but whether paid to ignore it or not, what were Liverpool's share-holders thinking. How come the fans opposed to the Yanks didn't highlight this?

Corinthians fans can't complain about him. When Hicks invested in Corinthians they had the best years of their history and he never did anything illegal. Their fans must feel very grateful about him.

@ Sheva: According to this article Corinthians fans have little to be grateful to Hicks for. Check the comments bit. Sound familiar?

He invested in Corinthians between 99 and 2001. During that period they won one Brazilian League, Fifa World Club Cup and two Paulista state Championships. They lost in Copa Libertadores Semi Finals on pks twice against their rivals Palmeiras. They had a very good squad. Probably their best team ever.
Every year there are rumours saying that Corinthians will build their stadium. No one can blame Hicks if Corinthians don't have one.
Hicks left Corinthians in 2001, but the club had a very good year in 2002. They didn't f@ck everything up like MSI did. They left Brazil because they lost money and brazilian rules were changed.

Sheva is right. Hicks was excelent for Corinthians. It was the bandits in charge of the club who fucked Hicks up, not the other way around.
we had by far the best team in Brazil in those years and were unlucky not to win Libertadores (I said unlucky, not that it was unfair).

He may not have done anything illegal in Brasil, but his business dealings in the USA are dubious to put it mildly. It includes insider trading when on board of UTIMCO. He was forced to resign. Also invested UTIMCO's money in ENRON, resulting in catastrophic losses. He was forced to resign from UTIMCO's board for insider trading. (Links in Liverpool thread.)Question is why wasn't he prosecuted. Couldn't be because he is major donor to George Bush could it?

Fair enough, but what was Hicks' role at Corinthians then. Was he investing his own money or UTIMCO's. If the latter would be wary of him as he was extremely dodgy there. By the way who was in charge of Corintians then and what did they do to f@ck up Hicks?

I don't know the details about the partnership. all I know is that they couldn't do what they wanted because of the amateurism of the club's managers (and of Brazilian football as well), even though the team was excelent.
our president was Alberto Dualib, who was deposed last year because of many irregularities, including stealing Corinthians' money.
our current managers seem to be much better.

What has happened to Dualib? Will he be prosecuted? What did Hicks and co. think they would be allowed to do and whatdid they want to do?
