Re: South American WC Qualifiers
Colombia-Brazil is tomorrow.
0-0 so far in the Argentina match. I really don't understand their system, its' very unbalanced. Riquelme as usual controlling things, but that leaves Maxi completely isolated on the right. Messi hasn't got in the game much either, so basically we're seeing Riquelme continually pass it to Tevez, but the ball gets stripped off him by the defenders.

Demichelis is awesome this season. Absolutely solid in the back.

Re: South American WC Qualifiers
i think they should drop messi or use him in riquelmes role because i dont think they get anything out of him and it ends being him dribbling into a wall even though i think he is their best player right now. i thought pekerman was crazy when he used saviola instead of messi in the world cup but i get it now. another solution could be using the tactic from the olympics which was a 3-4-3 which allow messi to play the same role as he does for barca. it worked great in the olympics and i think they would the most out of messi in such a system.kas wrote:Colombia-Brazil is tomorrow.

Has he always played CB? I thought he is a DM, hence the confusion.
btw, Riquelme gave Argentina the lead with a beautiful free kick.

Re: South American WC Qualifiers
Argentinian fans chanting "Ole" already. Great play by Messi a few moments earlier, he could have fallen at least 2 or 3 times but stayed up and protected the ball under pressure from 2/3 defenders.

Re: South American WC Qualifiers
ANOTHER free kick goal from Riquelme. Class.
The goal came about through some brilliant play from Messi - the ball was cleared out of defence and went v. v. high up in the air close to the touchline. Messi brought it down, somehow controlled it and kept it in play, then turned past 2 Chilean defenders, ran for about 40-50 yards, and laid it off to Riquelme, who got fouled. Then he scored from the resulting free kick.
2-0 at halftime, but as expected, it's individual quality making a difference from Argentina. A very inefficient system, we aren't seeing many team moves.

Re: Demichelis
Yeah, I can see how that might confuse you.
He is always been a CB, but in the past (much to my chagrin) coaches mostly used him as DM. He's much happier with his role now. And so am I.
Word.

Re: South American WC Qualifiers
Demichelis has been a CB since his time with River.
Well our team sucks but we've got a lead of two goals through two(truly great) free kicks from Riquelme. I don't give a $h!t I still don't like this system and I still don't want Riquelme on the national squad, he's being assigned a role that no one else can assume(at least with the players Basile has called up)

I'm sure Basile will work things out for Argentina. Three points in the bag today was the most important thing. Argentina will only improve as time goes on. I'm cautiously optimistic about beating Paraguay by two goals clear.

Re: South American WC Qualifiers
not sure about that. the system has obvious flaws and it ends up being dependent on indviduels and thats fine when you average teams but against big teams it will take a team effort.Puro wrote:Barrilete_Cosmico wrote:Demichelis has been a CB since his time with River.

Chile had a man sent off, and now their keeper gets a yellow for a foul on Messi, who has become more and more influential as the game has gone on. He basically has a free role, and the last few attacks have all gone to him.

Cr@p game...hope Puro is right and the best comes last
Messi out, Saviola in...the "atomic flea" has failed again to show what the fuss is all about before his countrymen in Buenos Aires...
It's so nice to watch Mascherano play for Argentina...favourite player along with Tevez from this team(special mention to "el pupi")

Saviola on for Messi, who gets a standing ovation (Tevez did too).
After the red card Chile gave up. Argentina must be having something like 90% possession in the last 10 mins.

Yeah Mascherano and Zanetti have been excellent.
I thought Messi did well though? Late in the game Riquelme has disappeared (probably out of fatigue) and Messi took over the play in the centre.
