Manchester City striker Nery Castillo has told Roma that next week he’ll decide between them and Betis Sevilla.

Good deal for Roma? Can play on the flanks or as a striker, not seen much of him though.

We're also close to getting Augusto Fernandez who is a very good talent but there's some problems with his passport which need to be sorted out. We're also linked with Pinzi of Udinese in a swap deal for Stendardo. Pinzi is good and could play in Ledesma's position but atm i think that is luxury we can't afford and we should make sure our defence is solid.
With Zauri & Behrami gone, and Mutarelli, Ledesma, and Stendardo likely to follow, Lazio do need some replacements in the defence and midfield - very badly.

Appiah is available on a free - he could be a brilliant acquisition!

Not yet, but there were strong rumours linking him to Newcastle, and it sounded so like something the Toon would do Wink

Latest is that Everton are on the verge of signing him on loan...

Chiellini picked up a fairly serious injury so one would assume that Juve will go looking for a new defender now.

Is it just me or there have been too many injuries in Serie A last 12 months?

Specially at Inter, we have seen a record number of injuries many of which were long term... now Milan and Juve are also experiencing a large number of injuries...

    Although the deal looks dead;

The agent of Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic insists that the Chelsea man is likely to wear the Milan shirt next season.

A fortnight ago it seemed a loan deal for Ivanovic was inevitable, but talks hit a brick wall at the 11th hour.

But Ivanovic’s representative believes that an agreement can be reached before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

“Juventus have asked for the player, but there has been no contact and Branislav has chosen Milan,” Vlado Borozan told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Therefore he will probably be playing for Milan next season. A deal will be done, partly because the player is unhappy.

“The problem at the moment is that Chelsea want four starters in his position and he is the fourth.

“It is difficult to find an arrangement that works for both sides but there is a game to be played and it can be completed.”

Very under rated player, great passing ability and vision - he will be a big blow to Lazio if he leaves.... like everyone else at Lazio, he had a poor last season.... but the season before that and at Lecce, he was very good. If I remember correctly, Lazio turned down an offer from spain last season to the tune of £15M for him!!!

But don't know if he can fit into the current Juve system... he is neither a DM nor an AM... more of a pirlo-isque player.... Juve will have to change their formation to accomadate him.

Can't think of a player anywhere that has a better passing range.

You have the likes of Xavi who control the pace of the game with simple passes and then you have people like Totti for defense-splitting passes.

Ledesma does both and can do it with both feet.

Long, short, on the floor or chipped he has every pass you can imagine.

His physical limitations are what has stopped him from playing at a really big club so far IMO.

    He also seems quite petulant.

He would be perfect next to Poulsen or one of the other guys you have there. he can be Juves Pirlo allthough i still think you need to buy someone who is a good Am who could play behind two strikers.
hope he doesnt leave Lazio because he is way too important for them allthough with that has happened recently perhaps it is best he leaves.

If Juve don't get Alonso then Ledesma would be a good alternative for them. ATM their midfield lacks creativity and will struggle to hold onto possesion against the good teams. It wouldn't surprise me if he does leave given the contract situation and the fact that we already seem to be looking at Pinzi to be his replacement.

It seems like Giovinvo will get a chance to play behind the strikers, though I think they wouuld've been better off buying someone like Diego or VDV to replace Nedved and using Giovinco in a more advanced position (similar to what Del Piero plays). I always saw Giovinco as more of a forward and playing him as an AM will either mean the midfield becomes too weak if he pushes up too much (which he will want to do) or he will be playing too far away from goal which will decrease his effectiveness.

Alonso deal is certainly off now & the latest that I read was Diego and Ledesma being mentioned as possible alternatives. Not sure but I think VDV has signed for Real Madrid.
Bobo, you are right about Giovinco being a player fit for playing at a more advanced position but what I think that Ranieri is planning is to play him on the left wing as a back-up for Nedved. Or maybe, though highly unlikely, Ranieri can also try playing a 4-3-3 where Giovinco would move to the left of the attack. But these are all theories so let me know what you guys think.

I really really hope this happens... and with this, Milan close their transfers and don't buy a defender! That would be ideal Wink

Hehe you keep hoping for that, but they keep saying the same yet buy one player after another.

I agree with Murray though, Milan are $h!t at transfers. Their current squad doesn't impress me at all, they've just replaced old players with more old players. Many weak spots have just not been addressed. In a year or two they'll need an "overhaul" again.

Ancelotti categorically denies this & dismisses them as rumours

Anyone know what Steve Pinau is like? Hibs have signed him on loan from Genoa. According to Wikipedia, he only made two appearances for Monaco before signing a 5 year contract with Genoa. Doesn't seem to have made any appearances for Genoa though.

The two new kids that really excite me this season are Russotto and Jovetic - really want to see what all the fuss is about, are they really as talented as people say.... do we have a new Roberto Baggio in our midst?

Also exciting is whether Balotelli, Santacroce and De Ceglie can confirm their talent on a regular basis and become starters for their teams at this young age.... these guys could be the future of Italy, and this season will go a long way in determining that.
