    Rossi on Azzurri Agenda

New Italy coach Roberto Donadoni says he will keep a close eye on the progress of Giuseppe Rossi after the Manchester United starlet impressed for the country's Under-21 team on Tuesday.

The striker is highly thought of at Old Trafford and will be hoping to make a telling breakthrough for the first team in the coming months after the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Rossi, who joined United from Parma back in 2004, has already started the new season in impressive form by earning the plaudits in his first ever Under-21 game as Italy drew 0-0 with Croatia.

The watching Donadoni, who took over the reins at The Azzurri following their World Cup triumph, admits he was impressed by the Red Devils starlet and will be watching his progress closely during the coming months.

"Rossi is a really interesting player," Donadoni told Rai TV.

"He had quality and he's a really good level player.

"I didn't expect this, he's a guy I'll surely follow also for my national team."

Rossi rejected the chance to join the USA senior squad before the World Cup, as he qualified for Bruce Arena's side after being born in New Jersey, and could now land his dream Azzurri call-up sooner than expected.

Sir Alex Ferguson has already signalled that the 19-year-old could have a prominent part to play at Old Trafford this season by refusing to allow him to join West Brom on loan.

Manchester United target Mahamadou Diarra has made his intentions clear as to where he will be playing his football next season.

The sought-after 25-year-old midfielder has been a long-term target of Sir Alex Ferguson but it is Real Madrid who are very much the subject of his affections.

Diarra has stated his utmost desire to move to the Bernabeu, urging his current paymasters to lower their demands as he strives for a switch to the Spanish capital.

French champions Lyon are currently holding out for €35 million (£23.7 million) but with Real having already been busy in the transfer market an accord is far from being struck.

"I can’t wait anymore,'' he told L'Equipe. "On Monday, Real Madrid told Lyon they wanted a meeting to discuss my transfer.

"The result is Lyon turned a deaf ear. Then, they said if Real want a rendezvous, there is just one solution, come with a €35 million cheque.

    "Do you realise, €35 million!?

"I finally had a phone call with chairman Jean-Michel Aulas. I told him my desire to join Real. Obviously he didn’t hear me.

"A club like Real offers you to wear his shirt; it happens just once in a career.

"I can’t stand the idea that they refuse me that opportunity in demanding €35 million just to talk around a table."

Diarra claims that he will do everything in his power to agitate a move, even going as far as to suggest he would entertain the thought of going AWOL in his homeland Mali.

"I am not Michael Essien, I won’t be in a sulk day after day.

"At the moment, I am with Malian team, and I should be back at Lyon on Thursday.

"If at that time the situation has not evolved, I will tell them what I am thinking about all that.

"I am keen to do anything, not resuming training-sessions with Lyon or even leaving for Mali if the club doesn’t negotiate with Real.

"It is very clear in my mind, I want to leave for Real.

"What annoys me the most, is the fact l’OL tries to gain time, even for a meeting with Real. That is really a lack of respect towards the player and such a club."

Meanwhile, reports emanating from the French press have linked Lyon with a move for Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle.

The French hit-man looks to be on his way out of Anfield but had previously been strongly linked with a switch to Spain, with Osasuna his primary suitor.

However, Liverpool are keen to offload the player on a permanent basis, which would suit Lyon, while Osasuna are more interested in an initial loan deal.

No Diarra then, will Hargreaves go this far?

Mate Hargreaves cost bayern nothing, he has done his best for them for 8 years. He doesnt think he owes them anything, he might do an essien, he might refuse to play for bayern on the weekend we shall see.

Rangers have taken Manchester United full back Phil Bardsley on loan until the end of the year.

Bardsley heads to Ibrox to be reunited with fellow United youngster Lee Martin, who joined The Gers in a similar arrangement last week.

He will look to secure regular first-team football in Glasgow and Rangers boss Paul Le Guen is delighted to sign a second Red Devil.

"I'm very pleased that Phil Bardsley has signed," Le Guen told the club's official website.

"I went to Old Trafford last year when Manchester United played Benfica when Phil was in the team and he played very well.

"Alex Ferguson has already been helpful in letting us have Lee Martin and I am thankful that we have Phil as well.

"I am sure that Bardsley will be a good addition to our squad this season."

The 21-year-old made 15 appearances for United last term after deputising for the injured Gary Neville at right back in the autumn.

Bardsley concluded the campaign on loan at Burnley, while he has featured regularly for The Red Devils in pre-season.

Nah, it's a general question mate. Every club seems to up the price tag by £5million after a good performance internationally.

No doubt Huntelaar is worth £20,000,000 this morning.

It just depends how much Hargreaves wants the move (and it would appear from the stories that he wants it very much).

Bayern can try to up the price but ultimately if Man U hold firm and Hargreaves 'does an Essien' then the deal will go through.

I saw the goals from the Holland v Ireland game and his second goal and flick for Robbens goal were quality. I know Rai doesn't want him to go but I'd rather sign him than Torres and Adriano.

Surely £13 million or more likely 20 million euros (£13.75 million) is enough for Hargreaves.

Yeah £13m seems reasonable... just think, £14m for Carrick and £13m for Hargreaves - you haven't spent this much on a midfield in a transfer window since you bought Veron Wink

Villarreal's Senna sets Man Utd deadline
    tribalfooball.com - August 17, 2006

Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has given Manchester United until next Friday to sign him.

The Spain international's agent, Eli Coimbra, said: "For about twenty days we have been in negotiations with Manchester United for the incorporation of Marcos to this club. What is more, they have asked us twice for more time to establish negotiations definitively. A situation that has taken us through to today and after reuniting with Villarreal, we have decided that we cannot wait any longer.

"We understand the situation at Manchester, but also we understand that Villarreal already is annoyed by this and that they want this situation to end. For that reason, if by next Friday at noon no serious offer exists, the decision of the player is clear: to remain with Villarreal."

Coimbra added: "I've had many conversations with Manchester and I believe they want to sign Marcos. But this situation is dragging on and their transfer plans are behind schedule."

    ______________________________________

So basically we will have either Hargreaves or Senna by next Friday, i can understand his frustration though

Van der Sar is United No.1

Edwin van der Sar will officially be United's number one goalkeeper next season, after the Reds confirmed the team's squad numbers for the new Premiership season.

Van der Sar, previously No.19, takes the jersey occupied last term by Tim Howard, who will be spending the season on loan with Everton.

Italian teenage striker Giuseppe Rossi is expected to be a much more prominent figure following the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who's No.10 shirt will be vacant this season. Rossi will wear the No.19 shirt.

Other additions or changes include Tomasz Kuszczak (29), David Jones (25) and Michael Carrick, who, of course, wears Roy Keane's old No.16 shirt number.

    Premiership 2006/07 Squad Numbers:

    1. Van der Sar, 2. Neville, 3. Evra, 4. Heinze, 5. Ferdinand, 6. Brown, 7. Ronaldo, 8. Rooney, 9. Saha, 11. Giggs, 13. Park, 14. Smith, 15. Vidic, 16. Carrick, 17. Miller, 18. Scholes, 19. Rossi, 20. Solskjaer, 22. O'Shea, 23. Richardson, 24. Fletcher, 25. D.Jones, 27. Silvestre, 29. Kuszczak, 33. Eagles, 38. Heaton, 49. R.Jones.
