Paulinho will now need to trust Townsend and get into the box more often

Pleat and Dembele like he should be out there. It might be a scrappy game but good to see AVB mixing up the systems game style. 0-1 at halftime

Townsend created a number of decent chances from out on the right. He was excellent today.
Holtby isn't a natural number 10 and it showed again. He was ok and I thought it was a "professional performance" against a Villa side who look dangerous on the break, we did well to limit them at home. Theyve beaten Arsenal and Man City this season so very satisfying result.

Have to get use to posting on a phone. Blut the second goal Soldado started and finished it. Holt by was involved in it. The first goal Holtby was the silent hero with leaving Townsends cross go on target for goal

Stat attack: No assists this weekend for Mesut Özil or Christian Eriksen. The first time in Premier League history that that's happened.
Where the cucking funt was Chadli today? Is he injured, or is he now so far down the pecking order that he trains with QPR?

Blut seems to think that was Spurs' first goal from open play, so not sure he's paying any real attention to validate his claims about Holtby to be honest
Holtby should start if we play 433, but in a 4231 unless he plays deep as part of the pivot then Eriksen should start behind Soldado. He's a good player to have as he can play a variety of positions well, and his off the ball workrate is excellent, but his problem is he's not a specialist and we have specialist players better than him in every position. Not to say he shouldn't start games because squad rotation is crucial as season wears on, but to claim his influence today was somehow unique is pushing it. Nice pass to Paulinho for the second but it was the Brazilian and Soldados run who made that goal really.

Not the first Spurs goal from open play, although those seem to be rather rare this season...
Holtby is a #8 / #10 hybrid. He can play both positions rather well, probably a bit more effective on the #8 than the #10. However, he has a good shot and can score goals, so moving him closer to the opposition defence has the advantage of him being more of a goal threat, provided he feels confident / established enough to take those shots.

They still haven't finished investigating you lot for Selling Carroll for £35mil and getting Ba on a free, making a £7mil profit on him and then renting Remy.Kimbo wrote:You should give Madrid a discount, you sold them a pup in Bale. The goals aren't flowing yet, but you'd expect they will come with increasing familiarity between the front 4. What's more heartening is how few goals have been conceded - 10 clean sheets so far this season (5 in 8 premier league games, 4 in 4 Europa games, 1 in 1 League Cup game). Better to build a team from the back than the otherway round.blutgraetsche wrote:Not the first Spurs goal from open play, although those seem to be rather rare this season...

Re Holtby- you ve highghted exactly the problem. He's very useful in both roles, but is he better than Eriksen at 10 and Paulinho at 8? I'm glad we have him given his flexibility, amd he's a very good player. But can't blame AVB for starting with the two former. Holtby is better defensively than Eriksen so I wouldn't be suprised if he starts more away games. Plus Eriksen is only 21, so no need to overuse him. Can't see Holtby dislodging Paulinho at 8.
Saw a stat that Sandro was not dispossessed once today. Thought he was excellent and deserves to be first choice DM alongside Paulinho or Dembele. Capoue still to come back also.

Re Villa, Delph appears to be becoming the player he threarened to be a few years ago. Was very impressive. Decent side Villa, improved enormously since this time last year. Top 10 not out of the question if Benteke stays fit.

Villa's defenders should all be docked a weeks pay for letting Mauro Boselli score from open play.

Come on, you have to admit, that's rather impressive aim
And before jizz monkeys like you get on your high horse, the 2 guys involved were shopped to the police with the help of other Spurs fans and have since been arrested.

You're dead wrong about Soldado!Pierre Littbarski wrote:Villa's defenders should all be docked a weeks pay for letting Mauro Boselli score from open play.
Villas-Boas felt the pressure from the English critics regarding Soldado and it cost him dearly last game when he got crushed by West Ham at home! Starting Defoe instead of Soldado was simply idiotic, but managers as good as AVB make silly mistakes once in a while.
That would've been Soldado's seventh game -generally a striker needs 7 games to find his scoring boots and especially in Soldado's case being in a new league and teammates- and I knew that he was ready then against the Hammers as he was ready today.
Soldado won't stop scoring now.

Mostly about being in a new league with new team mates. I do worry about the type of service Soldado needs and whether inverted wingers will reduce the number of cutbacks/crosses that were his bread and butter in La Liga. Saw a lot more today with Townsend and then Lennon coming on, but the likes of Sigurdsson/Lamela/Chadli may restrict his goalscoring effectiveness, we'll see.
But still, you'd have to be dead inside not to be able to appreciate the quality of his goal today, first the run followed by the perfectly weighted first touch with the left and deft finish with the right.
