Van der Gijp was something else in his day. Too bad another prodigious talent wasted.

He makes a good (or fun) pundit to watch though.

Guess that makes up for it.*sarcasm*

    Ruud Dil ?
    Very Happy

Good call, he was captian too and considers Feyenoord his (Dutch) club (despite playing only 3 season for us).

Gio and Bennie played resp nearly 20 and nearly 30 years for Feyenoord (started at a young age).

About Gullit & Moluccans: anyone ever saw that match when Tahamata -playing for Feyenoord- robbed the ball of Gullit -who had just moved to PSV- & with aplomb put his foot on the ball (with a lot of theatre) to rub it. Stadium went mad. 1 of the classic moments in Dutch footbal.

It's the same old mistakes (VDV RW and Kuijt LW) with some new *jokes*, there's simply no other description for it.

    Dutch starting 11 :

    Stekelenburg

    Jaliens, Bouma, Mathijssen, Gio

    Halftime assessment :

Stekelenburg = 6-7 didn't have anything to do

Jaliens = 5 no Oranje material

Bouma = 6 decent, nothing more. third/fourth rate backup

Mathijssen = 5 wasn't all that good to start with, withers in Germany

Gio = 7 is trying hard, but De Cler is obviously better

Landzaat = 4 The invisible man....is he really on the pitch ?

de Jong = 5 for effort, nowhere near good enough to wear on Orange jersey

Seedorf = 4 back to his usual useless form for Holland. Bring on the Midget, he'll certainly be an improvement over "Marietje"

VDV = 6 shows his class from time to time but is played *completely* out of position....why not try Jenner here or play Kuijt here ?!

Vennegoor = 3 *utterly* useless, RVN *never* played this poor for Oranje....

Kuijt = 8 Best man on the pitch by a country mile, is trying hard, is *everywhere*.....that's because he has to do it all by himself.

Marco van Basten = 2 utterly, utterly clueless. In 20 years time we'll find out he's an undercover German operative placed there to ruin Dutch football

Fortunately for Marco the Russians are utterly clueless and useless too...

Stopped watching a while ago and see it's 3-1 now.

Just hope Van Basten will not be in charge after EC 2008.

Think with a decent manager we could have a chance (not as favourite) to win the 2010 WC. I see a lot of talent...

Agreed, he was a big improvement (as even *I* predicted, can you imagine Wink).

It's a crime VDV never got a chance in that position (it's his natural position).

It's beyond believe really : we won 4-1 and it still was an incredible dire match and one of the worst Oranje performances I ever saw....

Oranje got stronger with *every* substitution Van Basten made (bar Babel for Kuijt of course). That's how bad Marco's starting tactics/selections were...

Babel is useless more than half the time, but he has some strange qualities that result in a goal once in a while (once a match).
Babel is quite effective in that way....but it just hurts my eyes looking at it.

Best man on the pitch in the second half : Wesley Sneijder ok

Scored a great goal too Ale

I only watched some highlights of the first half. That was just too bad. I mean why are 3 HSV players selected?? And why Landzaat? Anyway, seems I only missed some goals.

MvB is just so annoying, I sometimes wonder if he does this all on purpose? I dont have any other explaination for it. The first half was unacceptable. And that the match was played in the Arena didnt helped either. Oranje plays the best, when they are playing in the Kuip.

    Erm

Not really, poor first half but an acceptable 2nd half. but how can people criticise a bondscoach with this material (9 players were missing + a few stupid rebels who do not want to play for Oranje Doh)

It was a friendly and that has hardly been a superb performance

And the team won 4-1 from a team that have a chance to qualify for the Euro 2008

    Sneijder adds zest to Oranje

Not for the first time this season, Wesley Sneijder was the talk of Amsterdam last night. The AFC Ajax playmaker underlined his status as one of Europe's brightest talents with a virtuoso display in the Netherlands' 4-1 defeat of Russia at the Amsterdam ArenA.

    Patience needed

With 13 league goals in 20 league games for Ajax including a hat-trick in last Sunday's defeat of Feyenoord, also by 4-1, it was a surprise to many that Sneijder began last night's friendly on the bench, not least because he had started the Group G leaders last three UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers. After a goalless first half that lacked inspiration, Oranje coach Marco van Basten had seen enough and sent Sneijder into the fray, along with towering Ajax team-mate Ryan Babel.

    Coach content

"It really made a difference when Sneijder entered the pitch and Babel came in on the left wing," Van Basten said. "Sneijder brought more creativity, and that really helped us. When you have a player who can do these kinds of things for a team, then it becomes a lot easier. Goals make the difference, and that makes others play better as well. The first half was not much of a spectacle."

    Dutch dominant

Sneijder's appearance led to the first real action for Igor Akinfeev, with the highly-rated Russia goalkeeper twice having to keep out long-range efforts from the 22-year-old. Babel eventually broke the deadlock before Sneijder put the Dutch in control with a fierce strike. Russia pulled one back through Vladimir Bystrov but the Dutch were dominant and added two more goals through Joris Mathijsen and Rafael Van der Vaart.

    Attacking trio

For all the attacking intent, with Sneijder joining Van der Vaart and Clarence Seedorf on the pitch, Van Basten admitted he would not always be so adventurous, saying: "With those three you have a lot of football in your team, but when the ball is lost you have to ask those guys to do things they are not good at.” Van Basten also had praise for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink who led the line ahead of Klaas Jan Huntelaar, but it was Sneijder who was on most people’s minds.

    Team triumph

Captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst said: "By bringing on Babel and Sneijder we got more speed and more of the play. Wesley is always likely to create an opening and shoot from distance. He is in form and proved that again today." As for Sneijder himself, he admitted he was "disappointed" but "not unhappy" to start on the bench. "It was not just me who won the game," he said. "The tempo of the whole team increased which gave us more chances and the ability to score. It was a clear victory."

May I ask why sneijder isn't rated here that much? I can understand why babel isn't because his first touch isn't always good but Sneijder is very difficult to understand. This might sound stupid but i really do believe he( sneijder) is better than Van der vaart at the moment - he's much more dynamic and direct.

    It has to do with:

The World Cup. HE was forced to play as a DFM.... Every body judged him on his performances at that wrong position...

His behaviour. He is arrogant and he misbehaved himself more than once on and off the pitch.

He is an Ajacied....(the most hated club in NL because they are the most successful)

Marco is accused of being too Ajax-minded (i think he is not) and he is a big fan of Sneijder so that's makes Wesley impopular....

at the moment; Sneijder is smiling while VDV is contemplating his next visit to Mcdonalds ..

but when both on form; VDV > Sneijder ... it pains me to say that

But, Sneijder is on form and that is important .. being a Ajax player demands 110% .. the legends before him are 'harassing' him to perform if not, their 'aura' will destroy him.
