THE Glazer family are ready to consider bids for Manchester United - potentially throwing the club into off-field turmoil once more.

Less than three years after Malcolm Glazer finally won his controversial takeover battle in a deal that cost £831million, United's future is up in the air again.

Boardroom figures are privately conceding a sale in the short-term is likely after the Glazers realised United was not the cash cow they believed it would be.

If they sell, there is bound to be a period of uncertainty just as manager Sir Alex Ferguson would be aiming to build on the Premiership triumph.

Financial sources in the City last night confirmed feelers have started going out from Old Trafford because the takeover was proving so costly.

Malcolm Glazer paid £790m, plus legal fees of £41.3m, to win his drawn-out fight for control of the world's biggest club.

    David Bentley.

If not this summer, then next summer we really should look to sign him. He's going to be a quality player, United fan as well.

Still only 21 and Blackburn won't be able to command a huge fee. Anywhere from £8 - 12 million.

A good plan would be just to go after a striker now we've got Hargreaves. That gives us a very strong squad for next season.

Then if by January we are struggling in attack then go after Bentley who would not be cup-tied. <Ale>

Were you impressed by Bentley last night? It was hardly a game to use as a benchmark though.

He would be more effective on the wings in my opinion rather than as a second striker. He likes to pick the ball up from deep positions and drive forward more, Hughes has done well to convert him to this position. At Arsenal everyone considered him to be a second striker in the Bergkamp mould.

He has signed a new contarct in the last six months so it will be £10 million minimum for me.

Maybe Hughes can give you a discount. Wink

I thought he was excellent but I'd made my mind up before last night on how good is/will be.

I just think it may be better for him to have another season at Blackburn, rather than move here and play 20 - 25 games, mainly as sub.

Hopefully after another season he would be ready for the move.

    £10 million shouldn't be a problem.

Robson bids for United treble Sat, May 26 2007 11:03

Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson is set to get first pick of the young players to be made available for loan from Old Trafford.
The Blades boss has stated his intent to work the loan market in much the same way that ex-colleagues Roy Keane at Sunderland and Steve Bruce at Birmingham did last season.

Keane took two promising defenders from Sir Alex Ferguson's reserve squad last season and Robson has his eyes on three outstanding candidates from the current drop, who are ready to make the step up to Championship football.

Youth team captain Craig Cathcart was called up to the first team to cover for injuries in April before an injury struck him down before he could make his debut.

But the tall centre-back, 18, is expected to be given the choice of joining several clubs in August with Ipswich Town also interested.

Irish midfielder Darron Gibson is another prospect who played for Belgian 'feeder club' Royal Antwerp last season. The 19-year-old plays in the mould of Robson and his hero Keane and will be the first player to catch the Blades boss' eye.

Reserve team player of the year Kieron Lee is also likely to be departing Old Trafford for a loan spell this season, but Robson will assess his own squad's strengths and weaknesses before deciding who to move for.

Bentley is more winger than striker. I also wouldn't mind him in that role for us, him operating on the right, Ronaldo operating on the left.

    ok

I'd literally have no problems if he went straight into our team.

Just mean less on a striker though, same with any winger.

    van der Sar/Foster
    Neville/O'Shea, Rio/Pique, Vida/Brown, Evra/Silvestre
    Bentley/Park, Carrick/Scholes, Owen H/Fletcher, Ronaldo/Giggs
    Rooney/Rossi, Striker/Saha.

A striker for around £15 million Question

    From RedCafe.net:

    Fabio scores against world champions!!!
Fluminense beat Internacional 3 - 0 in an important league game tonight.
Fabio and Rafael both scored nice goals (one apiece). Watched it on brazilian TV. They are normally substitutes due to their very young age but both played a full game tonight. One or two of Fluminenses stars were rested as they play in the brazilian cup final on wednesday which if they win will qualify them for the Copa Libertadores.

    Figures.

Rafael is a very common name in Brazil. Is Redcafe the most reliable of places anyway?

The twins do have obvious quality if they were representing Brazil Under-17's at 15 year old. I wonder if they will adapt well, Denilson Neves did.

As far as I see it, if they come young before their agents have told them, about how great sapin is etc., they're more likely to succeed.
