A potential game against Dinamo Zagreb would be interesting , Modric has been linked with Bremen before ?

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
I just know that a lot of our fans would like to see him play for us. Don't know if the club was seriously interested.
They may have lost a few key players, but they still have quite a lot of good players, a good team. Their weak spot is supposedly the defence, we should take advantage of it.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
"At this stage" is the key part of that sentence. If we didn't have all these injuries, I wouldn't be worried at all.
But whatever, we want to play the CL, and we want to do well there, not just participate, that's why we have to beat Zagreb. Period.
No excuses. If we don't manage to beat them, we don't deserve to be in the CL.

We won't sell Diego to Real this summer even, Citeh can basically forget about it (why should Diego move there anyway?). Real asked for a price a few months ago, and Allofs said €55M. I think enough is said with that.

@Blut
There is a massive rumour going round that Diego will sign on Monday. There is no way this could happen is there ? surely you would never sell him ?

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
We will not sell Diego this summer. Period.
Seriously, do you guys think that we are retarded or something? We had an awful preparation, one of the reason for that was that both Diego and Naldo joined training very late due to the Copa America, we have 11 injured players now (including key players like Frings), and we have to play the Pokal on Saturday. In addition to that, the league will start very soon, and we will have to prevail in the upcoming CL qualification matches.
Now, do you really believe that we are going to sell one of our most important players in this situation, no matter to whom? Think again.
Diego won't want to leave anyway. He is very happy in Bremen, and now he is even more happy because of his old buddy Carlos Alberto joining us.

Oh FFS, this season is cursed before it has really started...
Bremen playing in the Pokal, still 0:0 (50'), but now Mertesacker is taken off the pitch because of a second booking (Merte usually gets booked twice a year). Some necessary tactical foul, because there was no choice thanks to our lethargic play.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Don't think so. Pokal and league are two different competitions.
We had two or three good chances now, looking better with 10 men, God knows why. But Wiese saved a sitter for Braunschweig also.
Sometimes I wonder if we had been relegated without Wiese saving our arse so often.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Brilliant, now Diego is injured also....
This season is cursed before it has even started. We have to fight for survival in the first few weeks, should Diego's injury be more serious (no way we can replace our two most important players, Diego and Frings, at the same time). I'm very sceptical about the CL qualification now also.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
It seems strange that the domestic cup competition in Germany starts so early in the season. Obviously we don't enter the FA Cup until the start of January. If the suspension doesn't apply to all domestic competitions that is something at least.
What team have you got out? Has anyone other than Wiese stood out?
edit: Bad luck with Diego as well. Hopefully it won't be too serious an injury.

Borowski, probably because he is the only guy who had a proper preparation.
This is going to be a hell of a season, in the negative sense, especially if Diego is out for long.

Goddamnit. Diego is playing again, but hobbling. I rather get knocked out of the Pokal, than losing him. Replace him, even if we don't have any adequate players left!

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Yes! We did it! More luck than anything, but we really deserved some luck after all the injuries, and the mess in general, we had to go through in the last few weeks!
This will hopefully give our guys a morale boost, winning with ten men under such hard conditions is very good regardless.
Great to see Sanogo scoring again, that's his third goal in his third match for us! And a very important one....

Well done. That should give the team a bit of confidence coming through that game with ten men. Hopefully Diego will be fine and that is the end of your injury worries for a while. Sanogo has made a very positive start, hopefully he can maintain it through the season.

Good luck in the CL , a 'possible' game v D Zagreb will be tough , but Bremen have done so well in the past few years and deserve to be in the UCL.
I don't want to tarnish this thread .. but i like the look of HSV for next season.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
HSV look very good indeed. They may be too dependent on VDV, that's why it's important that he won't miss too many matches. But they have a very good squad, and could challenge for a CL spot this season.
I expect Werder to be stronger in the second half of the season, basically the opposite of last season.

Trochowski looks very lively , from their Intertoto Cup home game.
It looks like it could be a real scramble for those Champions League spots next season ..
So what will be the main strike-force for next season for Werder ?

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
It's still not clear. We still may sign another striker, and hopefully we will, otherwise I can't see us challenging for the title, like I said repeatedly already.
If we don't sign any more strikers, Sanogo and Rosenberg will probably be first choice, although Almeida has as much of a chance to start also. All of them lack experience, that's why adding an experienced (class!) striker is so important IMHO.
Even if we don't sign an experienced striker, we need a technical and pacy striker, a Nilmar type of striker, as an ideal partner for both Sanogo and Almeida.
