About two weeks left, yes. Will be a rough start, I seriously hope that we don't bottle the Pokal match at least, which will be earlier.

It's really about time that our Brazilian samba force in the midfield plays together, we need Diego and Alberto to gel and form a hopefully fruitful partnership for us. Alberto is extremely motivated, it's good to know that he finally has his license.

Having Naldo back is as important. Our twin towers defence is the backbone of the team.

It will be a tough start, but once the team gels, and especially if we really sign another quality striker, I'm not that pessimistic about next season, despite the awful preparation.

According to rumours, a Werder delegation went to Brazil today. While the reason for this is most probably the Carlos Alberto transfer (finishing the formalities), some speculate that there will be talks about Nilmar as well, who is a Corinthians player also.

    Werder Bremen after Zigic?

The Racing president says there's a German club interested (apart from Man. City), and with the price tag they want I can't see who else that could be. He'd certainly be a "big" striker signing Wink

Interesting. Do you think he would suit Werder Bremen's style of play? I haven't seen Zigic play very often. Would he be a good signing?

edit: Sky Sports have confirmed that Bremen are after him, although the quotes they use do not specify which team it is, they are claiming that Racing have acknowledged that it is Bremen who are after him.

    Haha....

How long did you wait for that one kas? Very Happy

He'd be a good sparring partner for our twin towers defence, good for our training. We are not exactly plagued by smurfiritis like some other club, so signing him is not necessary.

I wouldn't mind him to be honest. We'll most probably have a very strong and technical midfield that could create chances galore for Mr. 2.02m. And unlike Barça, we are not allergic against >1.70m players...

Would be hilarious though, knowing the Zigic story on this board...

    http://www.bild.t-online.de/BTO/sport/bundesliga/2007/07/31/werder-diego/bayern-kritik,geo=2228778.html

Hear hear... Diego is back, and says that Bayern are one of the favourites for the Bundesliga title, not the favourite. Two weeks of rest after the Copa were enough, he feels fit and ready. He is especially excited about Carlos Alberto. "A great player, with him, Werder is ready for the title!"

You tell 'em Diego, hope you are right.

If we sign another class striker, and according to rumours we will, I'll believe it also...

    http://syke.mzv.net/news/stories/werder/?id=89026

Looks like Diego and Carlos Alberto are starting to gel already, they seem to have impressed a lot of fans in a training match yesterday with some brilliant passing and dribblings.

Great news! Furthermore, Naldo said in an interview that he definitely wants to win titles next season, and that he is fit and ready. He also said that Carlos Alberto is not just a great player, but a great personality (sic!) as well. Alberto is a very open and extrovert personality who gets along well with everyone in the team.

Team spirit seems to come back, something we really lacked at the end of the last (cursed...) season...

Just sign a striker Allofs please, so we can really spank some Lederhosen...

Not much, hopefully more than we have seen in the pre season so far at least though. Diego and Naldo are back, Diego will play, Naldo hopefully, too. The most interesting thing will probably be how Diego and Carlos Alberto will do as a partnership in the midfield, playing their first match together.

And it will be interesting to see how our current strikers will do, and how urgent it really is to buy another (quality) striker. In that sense, I hope that they don't do too well...

Could be. Everton have equalised, fully deserved, because we are playing Cr@p. Diego and Alberto not on the pitch anymore, Jensen and Vranjes playing Cr@p as usual. I really don't mind us selling them.

Allofs is chasing an U-21 Czech striking talent

    Yikes

the good man has lost his golden touch

Bremen already have TWO German youngster up front (Hunt and Schindler)

they now have to buy a KLOSE replacement , not foreign kids who tend to clog up places but fail to strengthen the side in Europe

    http://www.sportbild.de/sportbild/generated/article/fussball/2007/08/02/6769400000.html

I already said last season that Allofs was losing the plot

when everybody thought I was mad for saying so

    now I feel 100% vindicated

    --------------------

as for Bremen needing new players; agreed, blut

but even Allofs admitted that the players still available should have been good enough to thrash Paderborn

That U21 talent would most probably be for our second team. Remember that this will be a crucial and difficult season in the Regionalliga, because the league will be reformed this year. Next year, we don't have a northern and souther Regionalliga anymore, but a proper German 3rd division, 3. Bundesliga.

Schindler and Harnik will have to help out there often also.

I actually agree, like I wrote earlier myself. Without another class striker, we will have a difficult season indeed.

'Realistically' is a good question. We are linked to Anelka (unrealistic unfortunately), Zigic (can't see it happen) and Nilmar (probably a free transfer; would be great, but he'll be fit in a month or two).

    I don't know really.

Btw., in our last few matches, it looked like we didn't play a diamond midfield anymore, but with two defensive (or defensively orientated) players and two attacking midfielders instead.

    Something like this:

    Code:

    ----Andreasen-Borowski---
    --Carlos Alberto--Diego--

Not a 'real' double pivot, but no diamond either.

If you can get through the away leg unscathed you should be fine. From what I remember of our game there it was very atmospheric to start with, but we played well and silenced the crowd early on. They are a good team and if you play poorly they can definitely cause an upset, but they will probably be weaker than they were last season having sold a couple of key players.
