So Almeida out for you guys.. possibly missing even the Real Madrid match. How big is this for you guys? Considering he seems to have scored in almost every match he's scored I'm thinking it's pretty big.
Are you guys convinced about his quality? Do you think he's the right striker for you or is he just cover until you can bring in someone better?
How would you rate his potential?

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
@Luso
Almeida is a nice fellow, always trying hard with lots of energy. The fans really like him, you can hear "Hugo Almeida" chants pretty often in the Weserstadium.
His game often doesn´t look elegant, his technical abilities could be better and he has difficulties with fast short-pass play/game (don´t know if that´s the correct translation). And even though he always regulary scored (especially in the UEFA Cup last year which brought him the nick name "Euro Hugo"), his finishing could be better.
On the other side he has a great fighting spirit, he is fast, strong in the air and he has a great left foot, for which he needs a gun licence. The best about him however is his development. It´s really astounding how fast and how much he improves. Latterly he sometimes even looked a bit like Klose on the pitch. So I think there´s still lot of potential left in him, only waiting to be unearthed...
If he can keep his current status as first choice striker for us remains to be seen, but he is not just a backup. Actually the race is pretty open since Klose left us and Klasnic had a kidney transplantation.
His injury is surely a big blow for us, now our best two strikers by far this season are injured. But meanwhile we are used to it, during the whole season so far we had about 8-12 injuries...but hey, we´re nevertheless still second in the league, just one point behind Bayern.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Despite Werder’s lengthy injury list, trainer Thomas Schaaf has moved quickly to discipline the two players, making them unavailable for the weekend’s clash.
“The players are role models. If you behave in a certain way, you have to face the consequences” Schaaf said.
The cause of the spat was a coming together in training on Thursday. After a heavy challenge both players came to blows, leading to trainer Schaaf to send them back to the dressing room.
“We have taken this action despite our injury worries, as we cannot accept such behaviour” explained the trainer.
Ivory Coast striker Sanogo has scored six times this season and was due to make his return to the squad on Saturday after three weeks out injured.
Brazilian midfielder Carlos Alberto arrived at the start of the season for €8 million making him the most expensive signing in Werder’s history.
Better news for Thomas Schaaf has arrived with the news that full back Dusko Tosic will in fact be available after being released from Serbian international duty by the Serb FA.

Did you see the pic of Sanogo trying to punch Alberto in the Kicker magazine? For me it looks like Sanogo is the one who went way over the top with his reaction.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
One picture doesn´t tell the whole story though. Carlos Alberto already had similiar problems in training with 3 other players this season, with Martin Harnik, Max Kruse and John Jairo Mosquera. In all three incidents the players were very upset about Alberto.Ballhaeschen wrote:

This time the difference was however Sanogo couldn´t control himself and went over the top with his reaction. That´s why he deserved a suspension as well of course. But it doesn´t change the fact Alberto seems to be overly brutal in training at times.

Yeah, as if we hadn´t already enough injuries, now we have two more players who can´t play.Sheffield gunner wrote:

But to answer your question, Alberto is still far from playing regularly. He´s still not fit enough, he´s playing too slow and makes to many mistakes in training.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
The Chilean press have quoted Jorge Valdivias agent as saying both Bremen and Schalke have asked about him.
Not to sure if that is a good move, he has a history of being outspoken and has and odd sort of personality. I remember watching him play for Univ. de Concepcion and Colo Colo, he has bags a talent but was a lazy git which is why he failed in Europe last time.
He is supposedly doing well for Palmeiras at the moment though.
Is it not worrying though that Bremen are looking at AMs? Maybe a sign that the Diego rumours might be true.

I don`t find it worrying Werder are looking at AMs. We still have no adequate replacement for Diego. Carlos Alberto was a disappointment so far, Borowski is either injured or out of form for a long time meanwhile, and Daniel Jensen was rather unconstant in his performances in the past, so despite he´s playing quite good in recent times, it´s still uncertain whether Werder will extend his contract or not.
Despite the huge amount of games Diego was never injured so far. In his time in Bremen he only missed one single game because of a suspension.
Such a luck won´t go on forever, so we better be prepared. And we also urgently need to give him more breaks in the future...

I read it a few days ago in one of the chilean newspapers, this kind of news has a habit of repeating it self I remember a few weeks back I read about Schalkes interest. There is a lot of speculation about his future at the moment.
If I find the link or read something in the next days Ill post a link eventhough it will be in spanish. They were however talking about 10 million + in dollars so around 7million + euros I think.

Thanks again, Cricky, that would be nice. I tried to find it via Google, but unfortunately couldn´t find anything. A link is not really of importance, but I would need it to open a thread, without a source it´s not allowed.Cricky wrote:I read it a few days ago in one of the chilean newspapers, this kind of news has a habit of repeating it self I remember a few weeks back I read about Schalkes interest. I´ve read his agent is Torsten Wintermeyer, a German, who is also the agent of Leverkusen´s newbie Arturo Vidal. That would make it easier I guess.
With regard to Schalke`s interest, maybe they asked about him before they signed Carlos Großmüller?
Anyway, 7m+ would be a lot of money for another midfielder. Hmm, there was an article in Bild recently that Werder is planing to send Alberto back to Brazil in exchange for another player. But I guess that´s just the usual Bild nonsense.

That´s a good question, I wish I could answer it. Mosquera himself said the goal was deliberate afterwards, but hey, I would say the same if I were him. Our manager said, if it was really deliberate, it was world class, but he thinks it was more a sliced cross, which is probably the truth.Sheffield gunner wrote:Chrissi, I was watching the highlights from your game this weekend and I just wanted to ask if your second goal was deliberate or if it was a sliced cross? I watched it few times on youtube after the match, but couldn´t come to any final conclusion. When I watched the match on Saturday I was totally suprised the ball was inside.

Werder Bremen midfielder Diego wants a move to Real Madrid.
The Brazil international is a confirmed target for Real coach Bernd Schuster and his advisor, Fabiano Papeig, told AS: "It is frustrating for him to be in a team in which he cannot win anything."
"He is ambitious and has aspirations and in Madrid these would be fulfilled. He wants to conquer Europe, and although he is very happy in Bremen, he also wants to win titles."
"He would welcome a move to Madrid."
Diego's father, Djair Ribas da Cunha, also said: "It is very difficult for him to say 'no' to Madrid, but nobody has been in contact with me. For December, I see it being complicated, in the summer it would be easier ..."
OUCH!
