on the surface: nice, humble, quiet, no Kluivert-like-diva-nonsense, good German-speaker...
but the sinister truth is that the Dutchie was part of the reason for Bayern's downfall
speaking Spanish on the pitch was one thing, but marginalising the young German talents, notably Poldi, was another
before Lukas had even joined the club Makaay was lobbying the club via the media not to sign him (very unusual stuff; compare it to Messi welcoming his competitor Henry)
once Lukas had joined, Makaay made a habit of not passing the ball to him and refusing to celebrate his goals with the young Eagle
he effectively tried to cut him out of the team
now that Makaay is gone, he hits out at Poldi once again
remember, Poldi has NEVER said a bad word about Makaay, he never DEMANDED a place in the first eleven, and in the beginning spent most of his time on the bench under Magath
when he became a starter under Hitzfeld, it was never really Makaay's place that was under threat, but rather Pizarro's
so why is Makaay so bitter
there is no question in my mind that Makaay, a VERY SENIOR player and friend of van Bommel, Sagnol, Pizarro and Co transferred his Poldi scepticism onto the others, or at least created a cliquey atmosphere in the locker room that contributed to Poldi, Schweini and Lahmi's bad performances
the young Germans had NO senior allies, unfortunately
Kahn is completely self-obsessed and lives in his own world; Scholli was on the margins of the team already; Deisler was battling depression
Klose for Makaay is the best switch in Bayern's history over the last 20 years for it will mark the rebirth of a MANNSCHAFT that includes everybody
anyway, I will never understand Makaay's hatred of Poldi
